Recently been diagnosed with Diabetes type 1, help?

Thanks for that tip, just sat and read the section about insulins :) Hello diabetic1 This site is full of useful info and i find other peoples experiences helpful too. I am not diabetic myself but my daughter was diagnosed with type 1 two years ago.

    Twice daily vs MDI

That is brilliant, well done!! My daughter changed to MDI nearly 4 weeks ago and is just as unstable and i actually prefer the structure of the pre-mix routine LOL I am sure once her doses are eventually right that this will be better though.

Help please, with high eve BMs

How are things going shelly? I seem to have got rid of the 10pm highs but ended up with morning highs which least all day instead!!

Just getting sick of it now....

My daughter is the same at the moment :( She was really down Sunday evening and said that she is fed up being diabetic and it's not fair. She was changed from premix to basal/bolus 3 weeks ago and i think she is struggling with the change, she is not liking having to do 5 injections a day...

    Do you meet your targets?

Hi and thanks for replying again Most days she is lower in the afternoon and before dinner than she is before breakfast and lunch so i thought if i was going to increase the evening Levemir that i might need to decrease the morning one as she'll have both in her system for a few hours - i shall...

    Do you meet your targets?

Thanks for all your info, really appreciate it :) The hospital want her to be more stable, they want me to have better control and they want her Hba1c back under 8. I would like more stability and the rough predictability that i used to have with her. I know i will never get her levels spot...

    Do you meet your targets?

Thanks jopar I did the b-dec online course yesterday! Passed all the tests apart from the visualising carbs. I found it easy to see what to change dose wise on the example dairies on there as there was only 1 thing out but i am struggling with my daughter as i think most of it is out. I have...

Help please, with high eve BMs

Yes i know her ratio is about 65:35 for basal/bolus which does seem really different to everyone else!! Me and my eldest had food poisoning too, all at the same time :( The first day she woke up at 18, an hour later 20, 2 hours later 28 and +4 ketones  I panicked  I rang her...

Help please, with high eve BMs

Same here Catherine, there is only 1 nurse who has 3 times as many children in her care as she is supposed to have :( I felt confident changing the premix doses as i knew where i was with them and food, if that makes sense but i am still feeling a bit lost with this changeover. When she was on...

What do you do with sharps when out and about.

That is exactly what we do, use 1 or 2 old test strip pots!! If we are staying overnight anywhere then i take a small square plastic box with a locking lid and use that - it has flaps that fold down and 'lock' over each of the 4 edges.

Help please, with high eve BMs

Nooooo i am not experience really!! My daughter was on a premix injected twice a day with specific carb amounts for each meal and snack time. I had to drastically reduce her doses to the bare minimum 6mths ago but still had problems with hypos, after much deliberating by the hospital she was...

    Do you meet your targets?

Hi Catherine Any info is great, it can only add to what i already know :) I did not know about the different ratios but i did manage to work out by myself that she needs more insulin at breakfast time than the rest of the day, so she has 1:10 for breakfast and 1:15 for lunch and dinner...

Help please, with high eve BMs

Hi My daughter was changed from premix to basal/bolus 2 weeks ago and this week i am having the same problem as you!! She goes to bed 2 hours after dinner testing 5-6 at 7:30pm, i test her about 10pm and she has gone up to 12-15 :? I don't really have any advice as i am not sure what to...

    Do you meet your targets?

I would be happy if we could meet the targets on more days than we don't

    feeling a bit low

I feel like that a lot of the time Hope the test goes well today for your daughter. It was suggested by the GP that i should have a glucose tolerance test done with my 3rd pregnancy but my midwife disagreed as i was showing no symptoms at all, it was purely based on birth weights of my previous...

    Do you meet your targets?

Thanks to everyone who has replied :) I am not after perfection, just 'normal' levels if that makes sense? I would like better stability to make all the extra 'work' worthwhile! My first target is to get her to test between 5 and 9 before meals If i can manage that then i can try and 'tackle'...

    Do you meet your targets?

Had to ring my daughters nurse again to find out what to change as she is still all over the place with her readings and i couldn't work out which insulin to change and how to change it. As an example, her readings in a day are as low as 3.8 and as high as 15.9 and i said i felt that was too...

    Splitting Levemir

My daughter is currently having 2 lots of Levemir a day instead of the original 1, she ha sthem at roughly 7-8am and 7-8pm. Her ratios seem to be really out compared to everyone else though :? Currently the Levemir is 10units twice a day and Novorapid is roughly 3units, 3units, 5units. So her...

    DIABETIC BUDGET CUT

I can not help about the pump but just wanted to agree with you about the nurse!!!! As nice as she is, i find her very hard to get hold of, any advice she gives me is the bare minimum and very rushed. I know it is not her fault but her and the drs decided my daughter should be moved to MDI but i...
