    out of date insulin

Hi Amy This happened to me/my daughter! Back in June i had her changed from Levemir to Insulatard, i picked it up from the chemist during the day, she started the insulatard that night, after she'd gone to bed i decided to read the leaflet that came with it and then noticed it was out of date...

    Insulin Pump & Complications

I thought what jopar suggested was fairly normal for all type 1's :? If you don't count your carbs you won't know if your bolus is right and if you don't test often enough you won't know if your basal or ratios are right which is the same for injections as a pump surely.

Oh no Trina, what a worry! A couple of weeks ago we were almost in the same situation but my daughters pump alarmed when she only had 20 units of insulin left at 6am so i was able to change the cartridge before she went to school etc. Maybe you need to check that the pump alarms are on and are...

Just popped back on to give an update! After new cannula, she had an initial high at 10pm but otherwise was 7.8-8.8 all night with 2 hourly tests and 6.8 on waking so a huge difference between this cannula and the previous cannula!! Will need to see how her levels are today to confirm my...

That's interesting Riri She's just at that age for hormones causing problems and i think that is what causes her highs at 10pm-1am, she hasn't started her periods yet and when she was on injections there was no monthly pattern or anything. She has for last 12 months been taking tablets for a...

    Treating hypos

5g of carb will take my daughter up 1mmol so usually 2-3 glucotabs is enough unless she still has a lot of bolus insulin active.

    Storing pump insulin

We leave the used vial at room temperature, we go through a cartridge every 4 days so it is only sat around for about 8 days

Well i haven't got a clue what is going on with my daughter! Rang her PDSN yesterday and asked if it is normal in the early weeks to make changes, get 2 days of good levels and then back to high and she said no that is not normal but is puzzled as to what is going on! I'm now not sure if it is...

    Feeling sorry for my self!

Levels in the 20's will make you feel worse, do you have any help in how to reduce them? My daughter was diagnosed aged 9 and i used to have to numb the area i was going to inject into with an ice cube to start with until she got used to the feeling. She gets some lovelu bruises too, make sure...

2 cannulas i've made her change after 24 hours as she had constant high levels. Did a cannula change yesterday evening and lo and behold overnight she was 9-11, coming down to 8 on waking. The previous 2 nights she sat steady at 5-7. Given the early days it could be down to anything but does...

Question Re: First Day on Pump

Sounds like you're making good progress Trina :) My daughter has had her pump for nearly 4 weeks now and i am still testing overnight, have cut down from 2 hourly to 3 hourly this week though as i have a bad cold and it is killing me to get up overnight! We were told to change the cannula...

Question Re: First Day on Pump

You just need to test and correct 2 hourly until you've changed the basal rates to match your body's needs. I've had to nearly double some of my daughters rates at night to get her to not run high! We were told to start on the same meal ratios as when on injections but i've had to change them since.

help! T1 teen, need a little help

My daughter has suffered from CFS for the last year so i feel for you. Lantus is not the only background insulin available so maybe it just didn't suit your body's needs. I had my daughter changed from Levemir to Insulatard after a year of erratic levels and that made a huge difference but...

Would Like an Insulin Pump. Which Pump?

We wanted the Cellnovo but the release date keeps being pushed further away! Went for the Accu Chek Combo purely for the remote handset which doubles up as a blood tester with bolus wizard so no more complicated calculations to make, no more waking her up to inject when she's high at night.

Interestingly i have wondered this with my daughter but as she's only been on the pump for 3.5 weeks i wasn't really sure! I think it is almost set right but i've now decided to do cannula changes every 2 days rather than 3 days as her levels seem to start to rise after 2.5 days and while she...

    Can't eat breakfast

She started having the Belvita breakfast biscuits and i would stock up when they were on offer, when not on offer i got an alternative make from B&M and more recently as they are on offer she has had the new McVities breakfast biscuits. With a 200ml cup of milk they all work out about 45g of...

NEW TO PUMP AND NEW HBA1C

Hi Yvonne We had clinic yesterday and thought i'd let you know they are very pleased with how things are going and was very surprised at her Hba1c going from 7.8 to 7.0! Only been on the pump 2.5 weeks and the week before she started she had high levels due to acute tendonitis in her foot and...

    how many times?

When on injections we used to test a minimum of 7 times, often more due to problems overnight. As we are early days on the pump we are testing about 12 times in a 24 hour period but once set right it will be 7-8 times a day.

    Can't eat breakfast

My daughter isn't a big breakfast eater either! She's been having a pack of breakfast biscuits and a cup of milk for the last 8 months which keep her filled up until lunch time and don't spike her high like most boxed cereals.
