Could the worry of cuts on feet and hands be a thing of the past ??

Been listening to reports of medical marvels and the end of diabetes for over twenty years. False hope in my opinion, better off focusing on tight control and hoping for the best.

    University worries

Hi, The university won't have to do anything, you may be eligible for a fund for a small fridge or something so you can keep your supplies in your own room. Alternatively, pick on up from Tesco's before you go! Ultimately you're an adult so your diabetes is your responsibility, not the...

Which insulin pump would YOU choose?

Don't think so, it was inserted in front of the rep and the nurse, following their precise instructions. I also taped it down with opsite flex fix. Pretty good with insertions of sensors/infusion sets so that was not the issue. The filament looked perfect upon removal. May have been a dud...

Which insulin pump would YOU choose?

I'm currently reviewing pump options. Just had a week with the vibe/dexcom. I didn't rate it at all. 1) Couldn't find tune basals as well as I could with the Accu Chek, only 8 basal profiles per 24 hours. So not the fine tuning I was used to with the Combo. 2) Screen is unreadable in...

What exercise gives the BEST BG results yet is gentle?

Hi, I've not been strictly scientific about it, so doubt I have the level of detail you require. I know if I do a punishing squats and deadlift session I have to drop my basal by 70% for several hours afterwards and then eat before sleeping or I'll have a massive low during the night. I...

    No more pumping for now.

Personally pumping was a great learning curve. It was when I started taking my diabetes really seriously, did the DAFNE, read Bernstein and Think Like A Pancreas, started following forums online and become much more focused on tight control. Do I think it's solely the pump that improved my...

    No more pumping for now.

Sod a diaport, initial feedback wasn't great. Crystallising insulin, dodgy absorption and follow-up surgeries from what I read. Only reason I'd ever consider one is if I couldn't get decent absorption from pump or MDI.

What exercise gives the BEST BG results yet is gentle?

Walking/Jogging/Or Tabata. Combined with a 5X5 strength training programme. Big, heavy cave man exercises, squats, deadlifts, bench. 5 reps as heavy as possible five times. These drop my total insulin requirements and increase sensitivity like no other..

Corporate lunches - what would you do?

Pump or MDI, I'd probably seperate bolus. Might do a dual wave..

    640g in hot weather

Hi Dancer, I am meant to start the 640g in August. Please do a review if possible. Are you using the sensors. What was the ambient temperature? Generally it's advised to keep all pumps out of the sun. I've often get mine in a small frio cooling pack when sunbathing.

    Medtronic MiniMed 640G System

For me, some sensors only lasting two days (which I'm hearing everywhere) , the phone call to Medtronic explaining what happened and jumping through hoops for a new sensor, the waiting for the replacement sensor, going to the post office to return the failed sensors would be a huge pain if it...

    Medtronic MiniMed 640G System

Thanks for the info. I've read that you have to remove the transmitter, stick it on charge for 5-10 minutes than reattach? Did these steps not work? Shame on Medtronic if they've hard coded this into the 640G and the sensors really are limited to 6 days.
