    Licence revoked

A similar scenario happened to someone else. She was able to have a taxi paid for by "Access to Work" for the time it took to resolve her case. She also got excellent legal advice at a much reduced rate from a sympathetic solicitor and eventually had her licence restored.

    Licence revoked

FWIW it is now a legal requirement to test before driving and every 2 hours during a journey or multiple short journeys. Many GPs seem unaware of this legal requirement. A guide to completing your driving licence application can be found here...

    Diabetics in America.

You don't have to buy another test kit for your holiday. Just take the one you normally use, it will work exactly the same as it does at home. We measure in mmol/L whereas in the USA they measure in mg/dl but you'd only need a meter that measured mg/dl if you were living over there and needed...

    newly diagnosed - complex/starchy carbs.

Cugila I am very sorry but I find you so very over prescriptive! Surely one should "eat to one's meter" and as such one should decide one's own limits, You correct knowledgeable people all the time. I would prefer to find a softer management approach where well experienced members are allowed...

Apidra and Lantus Solostar pens - possible leaks

Yes I always hold in for a count of 20... how sad am I? I understand the Owen Mumford pens are well thought of and had I not gone onto Levemir I would have asked for one for Lantus. I was also furious at their suggestion to my Dr that I wasn't controlling my Bgs!

Apidra and Lantus Solostar pens - possible leaks

Barb Are you T1 or T2? There are so many variables and it may not be happening to you, but is there any way you can monitor how much leaks after your injection? It may be that if it leaks in a consistent way you can adapt for it?

Apidra and Lantus Solostar pens - possible leaks

In May this year I was concerned about the post prandial spikes I was having. If I took enough rapid to iron them out I was going hypo later on before my Novorapid had finished working. I understood that Apidra had a faster peak and less of a tail so I asked to change to Apidra. My nurse was...

    insulin dose adjustment

I take your point and I am utterly convinced that BG meters are the best weapon in our armoury against this disease. I never set foot out of the house without mine, or, if very occasionally I forget it, I feel completely vulnerable, but it's amazing how many T1s don't test. I am of the opinion...

    insulin dose adjustment

PMFJI I was reading this thread with some interest, when I came across the link to the DAFNE account which was written by a good friend of mine. I do know that he went onto the course with a cynical mind, but came out reasonably impressed with some parts of the course. I cannot speak for him...

Cost of testing strips - charges for diabetics

Ongoing debate, of course we are all furious. Some while back I petitioned the government about this. The petition and response can be seen here http://www.diabetes-support.org.uk/joomla/blood-glucose-testing/test-strips-petition-and-response. Unfortunately it means little and the PCTs will...

    Confusion Regarding Being Diagnosed Diabetic

Good. What I would advise you to do Dave, is to keep a food diary and also a BG diary of your tests so that you can take it to show the nurse. This should prove to her what sort of numbers you are seeing... also take your meter with you to reinforce the fact that your BG diary is accurate! A...

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Dave if you only ever take one piece of advice, read the link I gave you to Jennifer's advice! It's absolutely gold standard for T2s and I know many who, armed only with that advice and a few test strips, have got their BGs under total control! I know some T2s who have reduced and even given...

    Confusion Regarding Being Diagnosed Diabetic

I completely concur with Hanna as I have mentioned in your other thread. It's highly likely to be the high BGs actually causing the UTIs.

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Dave I don't normally post much in this forum, and so PMFJI, but having just read your other thread it sheds a lot of light on what may be the problem here. You said in the other thread:- When you wake up your blood sugar is under 7.1 before you eat. BUT after breakfast it has risen to 16.6...

Question my other half insists that I ask.

There is a fairly common condition that exhibits these symptoms. I cannot recall the name for it but a friend of mine suffered from it. The cure was to rub anti-dandruff shampoo on the skin. This cured it for my friend. ISTR it was a sort of skin fungus. Sounds mad, but it was true.

    How Acheivable?

PMFJI the quoted study relied on increasing medication in order to tighten control, not dietary self-control and therein lay the flaw. I personally find "eat to your meter" is a much better way of going about things. We're all individual and some of us can physically tolerate foods which...

    PM's

Well, let me just say this Sue... for a very long time I was a moderator on another forum and I was only "instructed" what I could and couldn't do. I did not personally "know" the admin . Initially the forum was left to it's own devices which was OK because the mods managed well, and then all...

    PM's

Eddie and Sue I don't think anyone is calling into doubt Sue's integrity nor her hard work. As one of the moderator team and admin team of a forum I am well aware of the amount of time it takes and the amount of personal commitment. However, there are security issues which I am also aware...

    Hypo!!!!

Eeek... that would send me into the stratosphere BG wise even from a hypo! I use one Lucozade tablet followed by 2 WeightWatchers biscuits at around 14g carb. The standard advice is 15g carb, wait 15 minutes and test again to see if you need further treatment. We all vary and have to work out...

    Hypo!!!!

Please! Never leave a hypo untreated, particularly if you are T1. You cannot rely on a liver dump. I know two ladies in another forum who's partners have permanent brain damage from losing consciousness and fitting during severe hypos. These two gentlemen are now living in care homes, will...
