    Fasting sugars

Non-diabetics walk round with their sugar levels in the 4s all day long. If your basal is right then you should neither drop nor rise much overnight. It looks as though yours is a little high since I presume you don't bolus for the hot chocolate.

    What!??

It could be liver dump as others have said, but it could also be inadequate basal coverage. The test to see if your basal is working correctly is to miss a meal, in doing so, your BGs should remain completely steady. If they rise, then it's inadequate basal coverage, if they drop, then it's...

1st day of low carb, food diary.

I'm sorry I've just checked in here again after a while. Did I say something controversial about Levemir in response to Siobhan? I would have thought that in this forum we were all aware that some things work for some people and some work for others. Surely that's what discussion is all...

If they'd done it right, I might not have been here

I do so agree.... You see the same thing in just about every diabetic forum on the web. The ADA are finally coming round to it.. but the NHS? Not on your nelly.... I do wonder why no-one ever asks "real diabetics" what works and I've been infiltrating as many NHS forums as I can and saying...

1st day of low carb, food diary.

Siobhan, I wasn't contradicting you. I was merely saying that yes, we are all different, but if something doesn't work for you then it doesn't make it rubbish "per se". The danger is others seeing that and believing that it's "rubbish" because someone said so. In fact, on another forum I have...

1st day of low carb, food diary.

I don't think Levemir is "rubbish" - since my my Hba1cs have been consistently in the mid 5s since I've been on it. Last 3 have been 5.3, 5.5 and 5.5. (and that is not at the expense of constant hypos) It's just that it doesn't last 24 hours, but even the manufacturers suggest you split it...

    bus driving

Depending on how your diabetes is treated you may also not be allowed to drive a PSV. Check out this link:- http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/MedicalRulesForDrivers/DG_10012708

Just been diagnosed and I'm very confused

Mick You should be OK with things like Thai green curry with fish/prawns, or the red curry with beef - just avoid the rice and noodles (or cut down on them). It's not just sugar to avoid, it's stuff like bread, rice, pasta and potatoes which are carbohydrates. As others have said, protein...

    Tesco scupper diabetic diet

Thank you Hanna and Ally I do believe all we have is a person following the daft guidelines and what really annoys me is the fact that there is no open thinking anywhere.

    Tesco scupper diabetic diet

It just says "diabetic diet" - doesn't specify for T1 or T2 but no carb values on anything so that T1s could calculate doses (that's just one of the things wrong with it). Ridiculously high in carbs for T2s IMHO. I'm T1.5 on insulin only and count carbs. I don't completely low carb, but find...

    Tesco scupper diabetic diet

Firstly, I think Catherine was looking at a different forum, or possibly one of the newsgroups. Certainly to my knowledge no-one has posted anything rude to Catherine from any source, people simply expressed their doubts and reserves about recommending such a high carb diet to diabetics. Not...

    Tesco scupper diabetic diet

sorry folks. I posted the wrong link - you can see the actual diet here http://www.tescodiets.com/index.cfm?currpage=dietplans&subsection=dietintro&dietchoice=9&code=350144 Catherine is the person who responds to any comments made about the content of the diet from their feedback page. The...

    Tesco scupper diabetic diet

Having followed a number of threads here re diet I think some of you may be interested in this:- http://www.tescodiets.com/index.cfm?currpage=contact&subsection=contact&code=350144 their suggested "diabetic diet" is so appalling that many members of another forum have written to their dietitian...

    Levemir Shortage

This is official. Reply from Sir Muir Gray's office

... and it's word for word the reply I got from Hon Rosie Winterton over a year ago in response to the Petition I put to Downing Street.

    Allergic to Levemir?

I had the same as Stabatha. Getting longer needles cured the red itchy bumps altogether.

    HA1C

How does your glucose level compare with your HbA1c Taken from the Birmingham med-web site:- HbA1c levels by coincidence nearly equate to glucose levels. So an HbA1c level of 10% means the average glucose level for the previous 10 weeks was 13mmol/l. But at lower levels there is even less...

    PETITION THE SELF-TESTING CONCLUSIONS

I also feel very strongly about the right for every diabetic who wishes to test to have access to prescribed strips. I think the avenues presented in your points 1, 2 and 3 are all excellent ideas. If you feel it necessary to aim it at the Government, you may find it more valid to re-word it...

    PETITION THE SELF-TESTING CONCLUSIONS

 No...it doesn't have quite the same ring to it does it? However, the PCTs are where the trouble starts. My own Dr (who has never restricted my strips) showed me the letter from the PCT advising the practice to cut down on prescriptions for them.

    PETITION THE SELF-TESTING CONCLUSIONS

Can I ask you who you are going to send this petition to? It is pointless sending it to the Government who will simply write back to you and tell you that anyone restricting test strip prescriptions is not acting in accordance with the new NICE guidelines which were put into place this month...
