Our 5y old son refuses the injections

Good morning. I was diagnosed aged 1 and have memories of running around the kitchen table screaming when it was injection time! Must be a nightmare for any parent. Well done for your strength and perseverance. Have you thought about trying a reward chart? Every time he allows you to do his...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Oops. 7.4 this morning :( Had an unusual meal (Lebanese food with half a pitta bread and a falafel) and 2 glasses of wine last night so clearly miscalculated the insulin.

    Brown Pasta

I went out yesterday and did a big low carb shop. Had salmon, avocados and nuts for dinner last night - SO much easier than my usual plate of rice and perfect bloodsugars afterwards. Toast for breakfast and no carbs for lunch. So far, so good. No highs or lows. I really appreciate all of this...

    Too little too late?

Hi, I am 28 years old and exactly the same story. I was diagnosed aged 1. I have had high hba1c's all my life (usually around 8 or 9) and bloodsugars that swing up and down wildly. I liked to pretend I wasn't diabetic when I was a teenager and have never paid enough attention to it. Luckily I...

    Brown Pasta

Thank you, everybody. These responses were quite a surprise to me - especially "avoid bread, rice, pasta and potatoes". I have never been advised to stay off carbohydrates - just to adapt my insulin to what I eat. It makes a lot of sense, your advice, and I will definitely look into it. I...

    No consistency

Thank you. Yes, I do repeat tests sometimes. In this case, it wasn't that. No difference in activity levels and it was the same insulin pen and insulin site. Perhaps, as somebody suggested, it was the amount of time I waited between waking up and injecting, or the slight difference of time...

    No consistency

Thank you for your reply. 4 hours later it was back to a good level. Yes, maybe I didn't leave long enough between injecting and eating.

    hba1c too high

Hello, I am type 1 (not on a pump) and also trying to get my hba1c down for this reason. Here are a few tips I've found useful I make sure my bloodsugar is right first thing in the morning. Overnight is a long time to be high! I do my insulin 10 minutes before eating my breakfast. I do this...

    Brown Pasta

Hello everybody. I am a 29 year old diabetic. I have been diabetic for 28 years. My partner and I have decided to try for a baby, but my last hba1c was 8.3 so obviously I need to sort my diabetes out first. I usually eat potatoes or white pasta for lunch. I have found that my blood sugar...
