GP changing my meter to save money

Just a thought, but if NH Trusts continue to seek out cheaper options, might this induce strip manufacturers to bring their prices more in line with such opposition? As things stand there is little incentive for those with large supply contracts to concern themselves with the grizzles of the...

Type 2 Glucose monitoring strips and storage temperature

Just the other day someone on this forum (regretfully I've forgotten who) suggested that when a new pot is opened 10 strips at a time are decanted into a second pot for daily use. A nice simple idea that reduces the number of times that strips are directly exposed to ambient conditions. Should...

    Freestyle Optium Neo H Question?

You probably expected a POC piece of kit to produce more accurate results. I recently bought an Accu-Chek Aviva Expert from a chap on eBay and must admit it is well built and seems to produce fairly consistent results. Mind you, as I am not Type 1 half of the functions are totally wasted...

    Freestyle Optium Neo H Question?

Sorry to be the belated purveyor of bad news but: "The FreeStyle Opum Neo H meter is designed to be used only with FreeStyle Opum Neo H Blood Glucose Test Strips". You can download the relevant PDF at https://myfreestyle.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/NeoH-On-Line-Module-Version-3.pdf

    How Important is OGTT?

I am fortunate inasfar as I am an all or nothing bloke. I can't spell moderashun so I don't do it. For instance, I cannot have just a glass or two of wine. If I open a bottle I will finish it (and possibly another if at hand) so I would rather go without than feel deprived with half measures...

    How Important is OGTT?

I take your point but I was being flippant. In my clumsy way I was trying to say that carbs are the source of all evil - nah, maybe not.

    More from the Grauniad

I copied it a couple of days ago from an on-line Guardian piece that apparently nicked it from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017. If you are into a little delving I think you may find it here: http://www.healthdata.org/data-visualization/gbd-compare

    More from the Grauniad

A couple of days ago the good ol' Guardian published a piece on world-wide dietary risk factors. Apparently, the highest risk is caused by diets high in sodium and, just a tad behind, are diets low in whole-grains (WHAT???) Still, at least the usual pariah fats appear way down the list.

    How Important is OGTT?

You are so right! It probably all boils down to degrees of carb intolerance and we may be all some way along the carb intolerance spectrum. Remember, you heard it here first. [emoji13]

    How Important is OGTT?

But doesn't this support the idea that excess carbs past a certain level may eventually lead to T2D in the population at large (witness the so-called diabetes epidemic)? To revert to normal HbA1c levels without medication is certainly a challenging task and I would think that persons who...

    How Important is OGTT?

Some very good points and I certainly understand why you would not wish to muck up a successful dieting regimen just to complete an OGTT. I also take heart in the fact that your carb tolerance is improving which kind of supports my notion (and hope) that things might improve over time. Back to...

    How Important is OGTT?

I take my hat off to this forum... one would be hard pushed to find another with such collective knowledge and intelligent discussion (and such nice people to boot). Enough plaudits, and on to my question. There are a considerable number of T2D's here who have achieved normal HbA1c levels and...

a comprehensive list of pharmacies providing Libre at cost price

I suspect that it won't be long before other strip manufacturers recognise a serious gap in their offerings and produce a competitive product. However, if conventional strip pricing is anything to go by, these providers will form themselves into a tacit cartel to all share in these wonderful...

    Diabetes UK Dietary Advice

I've just received an email from the above promoting their dietary recommendations (amongst other things): https://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Enjoy-food/Eating-with-diabetes/What-is-a-healthy-balanced-diet I still don't understand how an organisation that purports to represent the...

what is your bmi after low carb diet for a few months?

That is a brilliant reduction and my results pale into insignificance in comparison. I was getting podgy at 81.1kgs with a BMI of 24.9 at the end of April '18 and reduced to a BMI of 21.6 within five months (11kg loss). This resulted in my HbA1c reducing from 45 in April '18 to 38 in Sept '18...

    Carnivore diet

I recently spent a month in China. Dishes there are wonderful but how many carbs is anyone's guess. Because I didn't want to inadvertently break ketosis I stuck totally to meat skewers and meat dishes with all accompaniments ignored. Felt great throughout visit and continued to lose weight.

    Magnesium oil

Magnesium as a supplement is as cheap as chips yet it has amazing therapeutic properties. I started taking it after I read that it was good for prostate health (I am unfortunately of that age) and found almost immediately that I could halve my dosage of doxazosin (alpha blocker). However...

    Guardian : both barrels....

The biases in this piece are self-evident to anyone who takes a few minutes to research the backgrounds and affiliations of the two most vociferous commentators - Rory Collins and Dermot Neely. @Guzzler has made the point and probably done sufficient spluttering for all of us, but I would...
