    At last, a decent meal

Went to a local pub / eatery Friday for a meal. I visit once / twice a week for a glass of red or two. Just about everything on the menu is carb-laden (cooked in or accompanied by batter, breadcrumbs, french fries, rice, mash etc. etc.) So I asked for a knuckle of lamb on a bed of green veg...

    Dr Sherif Sultan - Statins

His main thrust is primary prevention. I'm on a statin for secondary 'prevention' due to arterial disease. (I've read that up to 20% of people over 60 have it to some degree). My surgeon says that a statin helps stabilize plaques to help stop them breaking up and shooting round my system. A...

    Type 2 Smoking

You've heard it countless time before, but you really should pack in. Take this opportunity to turn things around once and for all. Me and many others have done a lot of damage. Try vaping to start with?

    Diabetes and P.A.D

Sorry. If you've got this far in the thread you'll know, but in future I'll put them in the heading.

    Diabetes and P.A.D

True, but if you get good control of the first 5 points sLDL should be taken care of? I just thought the association between diabetes and arterial / vascular disease worth highlighting (both the possible causes and treatment).

    Diabetes and P.A.D

I think the root causes of PAD can be similar to T2 - vis poor glucose control (+ smoking). AFAIK it's an inflammatory-related issue and as such largely preventable with good lifestyle regime. But once you have it you have it. Diet and exercise doubtless help but medication is needed too...

    Diabetes and P.A.D

Peripheral Artery Disease Symptoms and Treatment August 6, 2014 (Updated: September 28, 2017)Leigh Erin Connealy, M.D. Sometimes I wonder how mainstream medicine has gotten so far off track. These days, the hospitals and big medical practices are more concerned about making money than in...

    Diabetes and P.A.D

Hi Many of us realize the importance of exercise where possible, good diet and glucose / insulin management. Not looking after ourselves can cause and exacerbate diabetes. But, as some videos I've seen and studies I've read testify, failing to look after our insides can cause all sorts of other...

    Scratchings (Pork)

Someone asked a while ago about pork scratchings. These are a crispy / crunchy version. Had a packet of these yesterday and they were pretty tasty........ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mr-Scratchings-Pork-Snack-Crunch/dp/B00BS5U3CQ Not as risky as regular PS as you don't get teeth-shattering rock...

    Type 1 P.A.D

Hi Sue As far as I see the best things you can do apart from taking your meds are exercise and trying to control your blood sugars as best you can. P.A.D. is certainly not uncommon and hopefully they've found yours in plenty of time to help. There is lots they can do. Jo

    Type 1 P.A.D

Hi @Suedono I've got it. (I'm a T2 trying to control it with diet so we differ there.) There's a page here that describes a bit about my problems. http://abargeatlarge.co.uk/articles/the%20fat%20bloke/vascular%20follow%20up.html Subsequent to the above I saw my GP yesterday who, at the...

    Fruit

Here's a story from the BBC. If I was non-diabetic I would be thinking to myself ....... what next? What the hell can I eat?? Well, the article does offer some advice but it would be easy for the 'healthy' to dismiss the whole thing as scaremongering - like eggs or fat previously. Apple growers...

    Prime Minister and the Libre

Very poor. People have every right to be ratty. At the end of the day, diabetics looking after themselves, and being helped to do so, saves money (not to mention aggravation and angst).
