    Diabetics R Us

I imagine it's a logistical nightmare to organise, but maybe we could find a way? There are a lot of reasons why I could tell myself not to sign up for such a thing right now, mostly finances, but if I've got a year's notice I'm sure I can have everything sorted by then.

    More Media Attention For T2

This is on at 9pm tonight on ITV if anyone is interested. "The Fast Fix: Diabetes" it's called. Given that I'll have this diabetes thing fixed shortly by the sounds of it, so long as I watch this program, I think I can afford to get complacent. It starts in just over an hour, so that gives me...

Very tempting. I think that could be fun.

I'm jealous. Sounds fantastic, hope you and the dogs have a great time!

    Why Are People Diabetic-shaped?

As well as the Steve Redgrave observation, I thought something similar when this article in everyone's favourite newspaper was highlighted in a thread recently. The article was intending to prove the 'shocking news' that you don't have to be 'overweight' to have T2...

    Low Carb Ingredients

No they don't, that's why I think the Aldi ones are notable. I can't remember the exact numbers but I think it's something like 7g per 100g as opposed to the normal 15-ish grams per 100. If you stick to the measured serving size (I always used scales) then I think it's about 3g carbs.

    Low Carb Ingredients

Chorizo is another good one. Not too expensive, especially from likes of Aldi/Lidl. It seems like quite a big outlay for a small piece of meat initially, but it's such a strong flavour that it lasts a long time as you only need to use a little bit at a time, and goes with all sorts when chopped...

    Diabetics R Us

Well I've been up all night, as it were, and I'm terribly disappointed by the lack of photos. Hopefully the delay has allowed time for the costume from eBay to arrive, however. Now I must off to bed...

    Why Are People Diabetic-shaped?

Not sure if it's widely accepted, but there's definitely something to it: https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/how-a-piece-of-string-can-tell-you-whether-youre-too-fat-a6742096.html

    Why Are People Diabetic-shaped?

Apparently people with the same girth, as it where, can vary in visceral fat up to 8 times. E.g. 0.5 litres to over 4 litres in spite of fitting into the same trousers. The second image here is interesting, with the cross-sections: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFI

    Why Are People Diabetic-shaped?

I looked for images of Steve Redgrave just now (it's a hobby) and found an interesting one where he's standing with fellow athletes, and I think my observation is actually right. In this article, a few images down...

    Why Are People Diabetic-shaped?

I can pass for not-obese-looking when I stand up, but when I sit down, I'm horribly aware of a big mass of stomach fat. All I know is that Type 2 is strongly correlated to visceral fat in particular, more so than overall body fat. So one might expect that, statistically, T2 people are prone to...

    Low Carb Ingredients

@Rachox's comment about fatty meat reminded me, both Aldi and Lidl are doing packets of strips of belly pork for £1.99 at the moment. 500g packets, there's a lot of meat in there. Very low carb, high energy. I find that a couple of slices of belly pork (less than half a pack) and a lot of...

    Low Carb Ingredients

I was thinking mainly ingredients as requested, but also if you want finished / flavoured products, then Aldi do the lowest carb honey roast peanuts I've seen. Big bags, very cheap, packed full of energy which I guess is a good thing if you want to stock your cupboards full of sustenance at a...

    Low Carb Ingredients

The context for these comes mainly from my shopping at places like Aldi: Low carb & quite cheap: Eggs, simple cheese like cheddar. Low carb & not too expensive: Bacon, double cream, ground almonds (to make e.g. baked goods with an alternative to wheat flour). Various bags of nuts - useful...

    Article On Junk Food Science

Well so much for mass-produced industrial food being cheap. The Dairylea "lunchables" in that article are £1.50 at Tesco, and are tiny. Tiny little packets of plastic / rubbery semi-food. Not "cheese", but "Cheese Food", it's called. And not "ham" of course, but "Formed ham slices". Even the...

    Article On Junk Food Science

I've just started reading a massive article that I'm finding quite interesting. I'm a very slow reader so this is going to take all night for me:) It's an old article but it may be of interest to some people if you haven't seen it already...

Why Eat Carbs As A Type 2 Diabetic?

There's 'facts' in the ideal sense of the word, and then there's scientific facts. All science can do for us is help us to understand the world as best we can at any given point in time. If we at any stage think "right, now we know" then we haven't learned the lessons from scientific history...

    Aldi Parking Warning

Don't worry! Interestingly I think that's the distinction that enabled them to win a court case. If they called them 'fines' then they couldn't get away with it as only councils etc can issue fines, but because they called them charges they managed to get a court to side with them. I hadn't been...

    Type 2's R Us

Peeing out loud. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, make it so! I was tempted to start a thread called 'Non-diabetics R us' for anyone that accidentally stumbled across the forum while searching for the best lead to connect their TV to speakers or some such, but who wasn't very good at doing...
