Glycogen stores, hypos and low carb/keto diets

If you do watch that video I suggested above I would be very interested to see if it has changed your thoughts or fears. :)

Glycogen stores, hypos and low carb/keto diets

I do not believe we can ever rely on our Livers helping out. Just one sniff of Insulin in the body and it just wont happen anyway. I am fortunate though to not have to worry about it as I do not believe I have ever had a night time Hypo. Reducing the amount of carbs should also mean a drop in...

    Crazy hypo in the morning

On a normal day, if there ever is one, does your Lantus normally have the same effect of lowering your bg to those low levels? I am just surprised that the Lantus had such an affect so rapidly as it is supposed to be slow acting. As I said before I have always been told to do any...

    Crazy hypo in the morning

I surprised you say it is a popular myth when you have already stated......

    Crazy hypo in the morning

Glad all was OK. I too use Lantus and Novarapid. If I had woken up to that reading of 12 I would have used my Novarapid first rather than the Lantus which I would have waited to take at my normal morning time. The dosage would have depended on what I had eaten and especially drank the night...

    Crazy hypo in the morning

The liver does not hold Glucose it stores Glygogen. The liver needs to be told to break this down and release it as Glucose by the hormone Glucagon. Glucagon is produced by the Pancreas which in most T1's is fairly messed up so there is no guarantee it will do so when needed or in time. And it...

    Crazy hypo in the morning

I use the letter "e" in Liver to remember Glycogen and the letter "o" in Hormone to remember Glucagon.:)

    Just been prescribed statins

I have always had high cholesterol before and after diagnosis 3 years ago. Always declined statins. Decided to give them a try and so far have had no side effects apart from my cholesterol coming down to 4 with HDL 1 and LDL 2.4. Seems to work for me.:)

Anyone who had a shielding letter before get another this week?

First paragraph of the guidance states....(my highlights) "This guidance is for everyone in England who has been identified as clinically extremely vulnerable. If you are in this group, you will previously have received a letter from the NHS or from your GP telling you this. You may have been...

Anyone who had a shielding letter before get another this week?

Maybe get your employer to read the current Government guidance. If you were CEV before you DO NOT go to work this time around either...

    Morning highs and evening lows

As already suggested start getting up every 2-3 hours during the night to test and then take a dose of insulin to compensate if high. :)

    Morning highs and evening lows

There are many reason that people can have unexpected highs in the morning, often referred to as Dawn Phenomenon, but the Liver reacting to a Hypo is not proven to one of them. If it did then there would be no comas or deaths from Hypos...

    Counting carbs vs. eyeballing

Please bear in mind that any honeymoon period is individual to each of us. There is no set period that the pancreas keeps on giving. Mine stopped the day I went to A&E and hasn't worked since. Even when it does still work it does not give a regular dose on a regular basis and cannot be relied...

Tips for early morning work starts

No neck to stick out as it is already illegal in England, Scotland and Wales to drive with legal drugs in your body if it impairs your driving. However just having a one off Hypo would not be enough to prove the offence and realistically some form of recklessness or intent would be needed. Also...

Tips for early morning work starts

As I said just give it a test, probably best when not having to drive that day. Wake up & test. Eat the fruit gum of choice and then test every 15 mins to see how you react. You may need to eat 2 to see any difference or if lucky even 3:). You shouldn't need to counteract any increase with...

Tips for early morning work starts

Just going to be a tad picky but there is no offence of driving with a reading under 4. If other offences such a careless driving or an accident happens and under 4 or a Hypo is in evidence then that can be seen as a contributing factor. The regulations set down by DVLA do not constitute...

Tips for early morning work starts

For most a wine gum is an instant hit and raises your BG. By how much is down to the individual and the hit will not last long so if driving for a few hours you will need some other source of slower acting carbs as well. Do a test one morning. You sound surprised by the mention of wine gums...

Tips for early morning work starts

Not everyone will agree with this but when you wake up and before testing have a wine gum. Wait ten minutes and test. The reading should be fine to drive and then enjoy your day. If driving is your job or if you have had any of your C&D categories taken off your licence and want to get them...

    Nearly finished myself off..

Glad you are OK @Gembow and there is no such thing as a simple question on here.:) As newly diagnosed I would have been more than happy with the kind of numbers you have been getting. diabetes.co.uk says For people with type 1 diabetes, blood sugar level targets are as follows: Before meals...
