    hypos While Sleeping ?

Apart from the other advice on regulating your eating and insulin you should, if you are a driver, inform DVLA and stop driving until awareness is confirmed by your GP/consultant.

    Advice on rapid-acting insulin.

I do not think you have to worry about "Glucose Toxicity" with your control and levels. It mainly occurs in those that have sustained high BG levels and are yet to be diagnosed or those that are diagnosed and fail to properly maintain their BG levels causing sustained Hypers.

    Hypo

Of course it does. How do you explain T1's ever having a Hypo if all is well and good in the "low blood glucose rectification mechanism"?
  4. PeteN11

    Hypo

That is probably because you did not read or understand what I wrote. The Liver will not release glucose whilst there is insulin in the body. It doesn't do it for non diabetics and it does not do it for T1's. Non diabetic insulin/Liver glucose release is produced on a minute by minute basis...

    Hypo

Some of the stuff you are saying is highly misleading and in part quite wrong. What you state above happens to people who are non diabetic. For most of us with T1 outside of the honeymoon period the Liver very rarely kicks in to keep glucose levels up during a Hypo. This is because the alpha...

    Shielding letter COVID-19

My GP surgery will not issue any shielding letters and refer you to https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable to attempt to register but if you go through the basic questions it refuses you unless you have one of the named conditions.

    Hospital deaths

What difference would being on a government list make? What is stopping you self isolating if you feel it is necessary?

    Hospital deaths

There was a similar report around a month ago from the US....... https://www.diabetes.co.uk/news/2020/apr/covid-19-death-rates-four-times-higher-among-those-with-diabetes-and-hyperglycemia.html Many of the deaths are from those that had uncontrolled diabetes or NO previous diagnosis of Diabetes...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

I get that and it happens for all not just diabetics but what I was trying to pick up on was your statement below. It rarely gets dumped to stop a low because of all the other factors involved with diabetes especially the over use (mostly unintentional) of insulin which inhibits the flow of...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

So disregard the alcohol for a minute. Are you saying you never have lows, other than by having injected too much insulin?

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

From what I have read Glucagon is not produced by the Liver but is the hormone needed by the Liver to dump Glucose in the event of a low. Glucagon is produced by the Pancreas which in my case doesn't do much at all anymore.

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

Can I ask why you think your Liver would do a dump in these circumstances? Surely if it was able to it would have already done some dumping when your levels were getting low and before it becomes critical which is the way it works for those without diabetes. I have had a similar sort of...

    Discrimination

I am not to sure there is anything "simple" about being a type 1 diabetic when it comes to "life critical" occupations. My pre Type 1 occupation was as a Yacht Delivery Skipper/Instructor. I cannot now do that without very severe restrictions which I can fully understand and accept. I am sorry...

Hi @dmacdonald I do wish you well with your future plans but just want to let you know that it is not just flying that have such restrictions. I am 58 years old and diagnosed 18 moths ago with Type1. Before diagnosis I was Maritime & Coastguard Agency endorsed Yachtmaster Instructor which...

    Confused after BERTIE course

Thanks for all your comments. I feel like I should take this further with the Hospital Trust that organised the course as the dietitian seems to have given out some bad information which could affect those that may have chosen to accept what she said as absolute fact. For those that have...
