    Back after a few years

Yes maybe but I want to investigate what choices I have. I'm happy and am reducing my carbs to sub 50g to get control back (hopefully). The winners in this game are the people who gain control over the condition long term and that can be achieved in many ways.

Thanks for the advice and yes the "thrush prone tract" was a concern I had as its one of the symptoms I get quite readily and is a great nudge into reducing carbs!

    Back after a few years

Yep that's basically what I've agreed with the diabetic nurse. Actually that's something very different from 5 years ago - having a diabetic nurse tell you to continue with sub 40g for a month. Five years ago they'd have fainted and thrown a tirade of anger at you. Her position is very low carb...

    Back after a few years

Wow 25 years, wish I had that focus! While I try and get back on track my current vlc mantra isn't quite so poetic. "Don't eat sugar or starch or anything that comes in a box". I'm interested you "progressed" from T2 to T1 as I have several T1's in my family both childhood T1 and LADA . It...

    Back after a few years

Hi Zand, thanks for the welcome. Long time no speak etc. That's a hell of a lot of posts you've made! I'm sorry to hear you are having control problems. When you've gone years without an issue its pretty depressing. I'm personally a bit worried that this is the first signs of "progression" so...

    Back after a few years

Lol structured exercise has never been my strong point but I do walk 3 - 5km / day with the dogs." Over the 5 years I have managed to keep the majority of my weight loss. My current BMI is 25.2. I see you describe yourself as a low carb nutcase - good for you. I have a T2 friend who has done...

    Back after a few years

So here's my first diabetes post on this forum for some years. I hope it's still a lively and supportive place. I've just passed my 5th year since diagnosis and all was well with the world until a few weeks ago. I am a low carb advocate and have pretty much followed the same 120g / day diet for...

EU - In or Out + Poll.

You certainly fit the BREXIT stereotype! So here are my views as you've asked for them I have no problem with immigration at all. To me all the people in the next street are foreigners and I don't give a **** about if they're English, Scottish, EU migrant, non EU migrant, Muslim, Atheist or...

EU - In or Out + Poll.

No I didn't. You seem very touchy on the subject of immigration. Do you start each sentence "I'm not racist but..." That's very weak. I'd bet for every 999 racists who are going to vote leave there will be 1 remain racist so that's no argument at all. No but maybe it should be telling you...

EU - In or Out + Poll.

Yes I agree both sides have lied outrageously which is why in the end with no real evidence it has to be a moral judgement and the logical moral position is to accept that voting in collaboration with far right extremists is not right. Ever consider the third option of abstaining on Thursday?

EU - In or Out + Poll.

Please re-read my post again I did not accuse half the population of being racist. I stated a simple truth. To get a majority on Thursday BREXIT needs the extremist vote whereas REMAIN doesn't. If you want to associate with those kind of people that's your choice but don't deny it.

EU - In or Out + Poll.

I bet he was! To be honest I loathe most politicians but especially ones who purposefully spread (or allow the spread of) racism etc. I can see there are arguments both ways on the economy although I worry that a BREXIT economy will be like us turning into an offshore Singapore or Dubai of...

EU - In or Out + Poll.

VOTE REMAIN Apart from being the right thing to do for any number of reasons the ONLY way Brexit can win is if enough normally nice and sensible people side with the racists and fascists much as the average German person-in-the-street was persuaded to by Hitler prior to WW2. So be one of the...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I'm doing fine desi thanks and about to have to train a new gp and dsn as to why eat to your meter rocks because I've recently moved. My opinion on the use a meter issue and controlled carb regimes remains the same which is we the successful t2 patients need to educate our local gp surgeries...

Told NOT to test BG and I must eat carbs.

So after diagnosis 3 years ago I got exactly the same lecture about testing and carbs. 3 years on low carb and nowadays occasional testing it was the best decision I ever made. I have an excellent hba1c, normal cholesterol and blood pressure and lost a lot of weight easily and pretty quickly...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

You could make a new thread that contains the poll then use your super mod powers to copy the posts from this one to the new one. Of course it would be polite to ask desi if he minds. However poll threads should have a health warning as historically they've ended in tears with many well...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

. Soon after diagnosis with T2 I was told by a specialist diabetes nurse that testing would send me mad and I was to stop immediately. Luckily based on my progress my gp agreed with me and encouraged me by prescribing a reasonabke number of strips a month. Edited by Mod. Personal remarks.

Low carb didn't work for me.

Hey Douglas haven't got the time to read all the posts in the thread as like you am doing up my house so some of this maybe out of date. If so apologies. I get the bit about exercising your pancreas and agree if you low carb and then eat some carbs your bloods will react badly because your...

Why Lo Carb is High Taste

Couldn't agree more except for my burgen sandwich at lunchtime. Coming up to three years since I ditched the starch and don't miss it at all. If you're T2 and want to avoid the strong meds get brilliant bgs, excellent cholesterol and lose weight then a tasty lchf diet is the way to go. Don't...
