    Artificial Pancreas

I don't think it is! There was another one I read about a while ago that was based on a reactive polymer and an insulin reservoir, where at high BG the polymer let insulin out, and at low BG it stopped it. No need for cgm or BG monitoring at all. It was an implant, so the issue of...

    Artificial Pancreas

a - I'm not that clever and b - anything that I take onto a petrochem/refining/offshore site needs to be pukka, not a Tupperware box of bits and pieces I've soldered together

I'd rip your arm off and use it to stop you getting to it first:) That's a yes

    T1D - Backcountry Camping / Hiking ?

Somebody told me the other day that bears apparently can't run downhill due to their weight distribution. So keep an eye on the slopes, and wear brown trousers, just in case. More seriously, if you are going to be out a few days it might be worth taking some basal insulin just in case, much...

    No Bolusing

caffeine can affect the basal testing as it can mimic the effects of adrenalien i.e. release stored glycogen in the liver and raise blood sugar. Think big bear - Run, that's adrenaline (normally coloured brown ;)) making sugars available which are easily utilised. Best to go with just water...

High Intensity Interval Training to improve blood glucose levels

I would have thought HIIT would be self-limiting? I do some very intense endurance weight sessions that last about half an hour to 40 mins, wouldn't really be going much longer than that. One problem with HIIT, is that if you are not well trained you get a very good initial response but that...

    The Gym/Training/Hypos

I'm a T1 myself, but I wouldn't be overly concerned with those readings in the absence of external insulin. The problem for a T1 is that once you've bloused, or as I am on a pump, the basal rate, you can't take it away again. That's the reason for reducing doses around exercise. As a T2...

    No Bolusing

if you basal test, and your BG is falling in the absence of any other insulin, then basal is too high. If your BG goes up, in the absence of carbs, caffeine, other stimulants, the the basal is too low. Broadly, the basal should keep your BG flat, if it doesn't, you need to adjust. You should...

    No Bolusing

if you are getting away with no bolus, it bay be an idea to make sure your basal is right. One reason for low bolus needs is that the basal is too high - I was certainly that way when on MDI, and it is always a good idea to do periodic basal checks

Cycling and Type 1 Diabetes management

nutritional ketosis, no evidence whatsoever that high fact diets contribute to either obesity or heart disease. That's just what the low fat/high sugar food industry would like to peddle. I'll let you know in 20 years or so, hopefully :D

Cycling and Type 1 Diabetes management

Pretty much the same as Jim for what I carry, but I've started using dried bananas as they're more compact. When I was on MDI, I would reduce my bolus to a minimum if I was exercising within about an hour or so afterwards, as little as 0.5 U. Basal was an AM/PM split at that time, and for an...

Cycling and Type 1 Diabetes management

Unless I'm having a cup of coffee with butter and coconut oil, or with cream. Calories from fats only, no bolus.

Cycling and Type 1 Diabetes management

The idea is not to change to protein, but to change to fat.

Cycling and Type 1 Diabetes management

I like this low carb stuff, lunch today was a two egg omelette with saucisson-sec, mushrooms and shredded sprouts, plus a coupel of oatcakes smothered in butter. Now to go and work it off on the turbo trainer.

Cycling and Type 1 Diabetes management

Even the leanest amongst us has plenty of fat reserves for a days cycling, we just need to learn to use it. Take the bullet proof coffee - 25g butter and 25g coconut oil would be about 400 kcal on their own. Add a three egg omelette and some bacon and you're getting towards 800 easily. Have...

    T1D - Backcountry Camping / Hiking ?

depending on what time of year (i.e. now, when it's effin' cold) then management of insulin temperature may be an important consideration - don't want that, or any other important bodily part, to freeze

    Personal Trainer Recommendations???

It does depend what you're looking for, but I appreciate your point. For me, my strengths workouts are a vinyasa (continuously moving) yoga practice and varying strength-endurance weights sessions with moderate weights and reps, but very little rest between sets, if any. The intent being not...

Cycling and Type 1 Diabetes management

I do these days @tim2000s, but not always. When more carby, my general method for long distance was to set a 30%tbr three hours ahead if possible, and reduce bolus with a bowl of porridge, or even no bolus. That accepted a short term spike to prevent a big drop about half an hour into the run...

    Regular moderate exercise log

A bit of indoor rowing on Saturday, a truncated bike ride yesterday,50km instead of the planned 100 for various reasons.

    Personal Trainer Recommendations???

sounds good if its working. Much as I like it, I think less running for me this year due to foot problems. Long distance ultra running to be replaced by long distance cycling, target at least one 200km ride this year. I'll still throw in the odd shorter race.
