Type 1: contraception (mirena vs. copper coil)

Thanks so much for your reply - it's really helpful to know. I also use a pump and have noticed the exact same as you - some months needing to adjust prior to my period, and others not (I do wonder if this is related to me just not ovulating some months...). Interesting.... And yes, I too get...

Type 1: contraception (mirena vs. copper coil)

Good morning, Sorry, mostly one for the ladies... I'm struggling to decide what to do about contraception. I'm very sensitive to hormonal fluctuations during the monthly cycle (I noticeably require more insulin in the 10 days or so before my period, and often feel quite 'down' during this time...

Carb ratio and insulin needs sharp incline

Thanks for your reply, but I don't use pens! Do you (or anyone else) know how you can tell from vials?

Carb ratio and insulin needs sharp incline

Probably a stupid question, but how do I check if my insulin is imported?? I'm getting worried now, as I've noticed some slight insulin resistance of late but never even considered this being the culprit....

    Libre sensors FOR SALE

Morning all, So, I bought the Freestyle Libre system in January but for one reason or another, haven't ended up using it. The 2 sensors that came with it expire on 30th Sept 2016. Just thought I'd see if anyone wanted to buy them off me so they don't go to waste? (I doubt very much I will use...

The enigma of eggs & how much carb to allow for

Hi... Quick question... if on a normal carb diet (100-150g per day), how many grams of carb would you allow for per egg? As I understand it, they contain approx 1g of carb per egg, but should I allow for more given the BG rise they often cause..? What do other people do? Thanks in advance!

    Daily basal rates

Thanks. That makes complete sense. Won't plan to do that then.

    Daily basal rates

Thanks for all the advice about basal testing. I'm going to do it when it's convenient (now is not the time to be waking up 2-hourly during the night), but what I'd actually really really appreciate is a breakdown of basal rates and time periods if anyone is prepared to give them to me.... I...

    Daily basal rates

Also...forgot to say that I'm not even sure I've got the timings right as to when to have different rates, so just a general idea of what time periods people use would be great! Thanks.

    Daily basal rates

I kind of do need to take a day off to basal test properly overnight if I'm going to be up every 2 hours to test BSs... The big problem with me is that most days are different with exercise, so I can't keep my day normal to basal test. And my other big problems are: not doing any exercise, and...

    Daily basal rates

Thanks for the reply. Any chance you could give me a breakdown of your rates throughout the day? And how much lower are they normally? I naturally basal test between 7pm and 7am everyday anyway, but thanks for the thought...

    Daily basal rates

Thanks for your speedy response. I agree, I should basal test, but I need to take a whole day off to do it and I haven't got the chance at the mo, and won't do for sometime..hence why I posted, as I'm intrigued as to how other people fare as things were working pretty much OK for me until about...

    Daily basal rates

Hi all! I wondered if you could help me... I've been on a pump (Omnipod) since August 2015. Things are better, but still not perfect. I've recently had contact with my DSN who suggested that my basal rates are quite different to what would be expected from most other type 1s on pumps, but she...

    Ketones

Thanks for such a detailed reply (sorry, only just seen it!). I was fine after eating some carbs. But I'm going to keep an eye on it this week to see what happens after exercise (I cycle 6 miles everyday), as I often feel slightly ketotic after my cycle, although I've never checked before...

    Ketones

OK, that's good to know, thanks. In 18 years, I've never been ketotic before and so is a bit of a shock! Not been high today at all, but thinking about it, I've only eaten 68g of carbs today and I've cycled 8 miles (although I usually only eat 100-130g carbs a day anyway)...would that have...

    Ketones

Just after some really quick advice. I have 1.0 ketones (tested on blood meter) but blood glucose is 8.1 and has been 'perfect' all day. I've corrected (using pump suggestions), am drinking lots, and am just about to eat 40g of carbs (for which I have also injected with a 1u:8g ratio) but what...

    Omnipod - NHS

Forgot to say yesterday that my team told me that the Omnipod versus other pumps actually works out about the same in price per annum: the PDM is worth about £400-500 (which is much cheaper than other pumps) but it is the pods that cost a lot and which makes the overall system fairly comparable...
