NHS in England ponders sugary drinks ban

So this is in the news today. Heaven forbid if you are a diabetic having a hypo on hospital grounds and have run out of supplies! I also do ponder if we will be entitled to vat off buying sugary drinks as we need them for our medical condition in order to treat hypos? NHS in England ponders...

Type 1: 11 year old son who loves chocolates and sweets

When my kids were younger they had one day where they could have a packet of crisps and one day where they could have chocolate or sweets. Not for any dietary reasons, just that's all my budget would allow for us treat wise. He can still enjoy his treats, just on a smaller scale now, bolusing...

Coping with loss of night vision

I know exactly what you mean about how long it can take for eyes to adapt to varying light levels etc. It is scary at times, and other times I feel silly about it because I'm sitting looking about me able to see (somewhat) perfectly well whilst talking about my need for a cane. But those times...

    "Transmitter out of range" Dexcom

Gah! Wish I'd read your response earlier, though my transmitter is just over the 12 month mark i think. Didn't give any warning about its battery though, hence a sensor wasted. I emailed animas about it, they just said to call the tech line if i thought it was tech issues.

Type1. Tingling and Fluid sensation in hands and wrists?

Yes, I had it on and off for many years before one of my wrists got really bad and needed an operation. Would be worth mentioning next time you are at the Dr. They usually recommend wrist splints to wear at night, or during the day too if needed.

    "Transmitter out of range" Dexcom

Just inserted a new sensor (Dexcom G4), and keep getting "transmitter out of range" message on my pump. Not getting past the two hour start up time. Do those in the know reckon it's a fault with the sensor or the transmitter is dying it's death? Any tricks to get this going, or an I gonna...

Coping with loss of night vision

Another update: Went to the low vision clinic today. They told me I've 5/6 visual acuity and that my contrast sensitivity isn't terrible, but is below normal. No visual field test, which surprised me considering theissue is night vision. She agreed that the symbol cane isn't sufficient for me...

Type1. Tingling and Fluid sensation in hands and wrists?

Sounds similar to carpal tunnel syndrome. If it continues make appointment for the Dr and get yourself some wrist splints to wear at night.

Diabetes show BBC1 last night 03.10.2016

Maybe if it scares one person into taking care of themselves and avoiding type 2 (though I know it's not always lifestyle related), it might have been worth it. Depressing viewing none the less.

Coping with loss of night vision

Wee update. Been to see the sensory support services and they have given me a symbol cane to use when it's dark or a lot of glare (which also causes me issues). I have to get brave and go out trying to use it after dark a couple of times to see if it works for me. If I'm still struggling they...

I keep going on about this I know but...

Having had a series of UTI and kidney infections one after other a few years ago, you have my sympathy! I was shocked at just how ill UTIs can make us. Get a sample sent down to Doctor's office and let them know how you are feeling, it sounds like the antibiotics you are on aren't clearing...

    Reflux & taste of blood

Update: GP said that taste alone is nothing worry about, but I see blood to make another appointment. Been put on another tablet (along with what I'm already on) to reduce stomach acid and another to assist food transit through gut.

Coping with loss of night vision

I've no idea, I've never worn them ( having never been a driver). I'm guessing they'd reduce dazzle when faced with bright lights in dark, but maybe not the lack being able to see much otherwise?

Coping with loss of night vision

Thanks for the link, that looks like it would be useful. My glasses tint with sunlight anyway, so I'm protected from bright sun with those. RNIB got back in contact with me and are referring me to the Sensory Support team at my local hospital. So hopefully they'll be able to give me some...

Coping with loss of night vision

Hiya, As my regular optician put it last week, the hospital specialist has nuked the back of my eyes, lol. A lot of laser done to both eyes to prevent any bleeds (I think I had one or two minor ones previously, not sure). So I'm guessing it's all linked to that.
