    Novorapid with meals

Have you got a half unit pen? If you're on very low doses you should ask your DSN for a half unit pen to enable you to adjust your basal by 0.5 units. I think I'd knock it down to 4units tonight, or take a complex carb snack before bed (toast). If 4u is too low and doesn't keep sugars in...

    Novorapid with meals

With you :). What's your I:C ratio at lunch time? Do you think it needs reducing? DAFNE says reduce basal by at least 10% after 1 nocturnal hypo. But you might want to think about a 20% reduction depending on what your low was last night.

You're taking basal am, pm and at noon? I imagine that's causing some of the lows.

    Newly diagnosed first post

Type 1 is usually diagnosed with blood sugars over 20/30 and ketones. How old are you? What us your BMI? I agree that your levels sound more like type 2. How exactly are your doctors confirming what type you are? Have you had a cpeptide test or an antibody test? 25% of type 1 diabetics are...

Sport (archery) and high blood sugars

Is each time you've shot an actual competition? Could be the stress and adrenaline of a competition raising blood sugars. Oo archery sounds fun, although I don't hold out much hope for my aim. Hope your enjoying it.

    Advice on Metformin

@Hollieo4 have you actually had genetic testing to confirm MODY? MODY isn't diagnosed by a negative antibody test, 25% of type 1s are antibody negative and remain type 1. MODY is genetic diabetes caused by a mutation on a specific gene. Genetic testing will tell you which particular gene...

    Medtronic account problems

@Reddy0370 have you spoken to your DSN? I know the NHS is telling you the account is set up but it's the DSN who needs to actually get it set up (it might be the hospital or the CCG has signed of everything to get it set up but the sign off hasn't actually been sent to Medtronic. It's your DSN...

Type 1 Unexplained rise in morning since taking Anastrozole and Atorvastatin any one else ?

The morning rise in blood sugar could be related to the coffee, caffeine can cause a rise for some people. Maybe try decade coffee and see if you get the same rise? It could be related to dawn phenomenon/feet on the floor syndrome - not eating anything for breakfast can make that worse, your...

Insulin resistance can be temporary during having a cold?

Are you following the sick day rules @cubanwolf? Here's a copy of the sick day rules for reference - http://www.nhslanarkshire.org.uk/Services/Diabetes/patient-info/Documents/Sick%20Day%20Rules%20for%20Type%201%20Diabetes%20Oct%2016.pdf I don't think having a cold makes you insulin resistant...

    VATER or VACTERL

Can your scans confirm how extensive the birth defect your baby has are going to be? I imagine it might be possible to confirm the degree of vertebral defect, but I'm not sure how detailed the reports on anal, trachea, oesophageal and renal birth defects might be.

    Stunned to be rediagnosed today

I don't follow how that table, on drugs prescribed for type 2 diabetes, is relevant or helpful to the OP, who was initially misdiagnosed with type 2 but has now had type 1 confirmed? Januvia stimulates beta cells to produce insulin, so it is not recommended for people with type 1.5 who wish to...

    Shift work

Under the Equality Act 2010, which replaced the Disability Discrimination Act, a person is disabled if they have a long term health condition that would have a significant adverse impact on their ability to carry out day to day activities if it weren't treated. So type 1 is definitely a...

    Dr very unhappy

The OP has had diabetes for 14 years and isn't on insulin. If she was misdiagnosed type 1 she'd be dead, not with a not wildly high hba1c of 69 a few weeks after commencing a low carb diet.

    Running and Type 1

Hi Evey, Aerobic exercise (like running up a hill or sprinting) can push blood sugar up. This is because of adrenaline (a hormone that makes you insulin resistant and increases blood sugar) and because your muscles/liver might be releasing their glucose stores to fuel the exercise, but it can't...

    Low HbA1c and background retinopathy

I don't follow how this is relevant to the OP who quite clearly says: I'm also not aware of any recommendation to avoid saturated fats with retinopathy. Where does this come from? @drahawkins_1973 background retinopathy that doesn't require treatment can be put down to a screening error - the...

    HYPO....HYPER

Use a blood sugar monitor when you have these symptoms and find out. You're basically asking the Internet to guess at this point and the fact is, no one knows. So test and then you'll know what's going on.

    Advice please - having a nightmare :(

I'm sure some members will provide guidance on the most economical blood sugar monitors for type 2s, codefree or tee2 I believe. With metformin only and your diet (oats for breakfast, ryvita for lunch and jacket potatoe for dinner) I would be amazed if you were having hypos. Your symptoms...

    Omnipod

I don't think there's any going on a trial for the omnipod. Having a trial with the omnipod, to check you're alright with it stuck to you and not allergic to the adhesive is pretty common. That's normally one pod, so 3 days.

Have you read the MCA doctors manual - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/683981/February_2018_AD_Manual.pdf#page105 - it seems pretty clear that you aren't going to get anything other than UK near coastal waters.
