    Weed and diabetes

That's right yeh, moved down to London from Leeds 2 years ago! Definitely lots of things to keep me busy without the need for boozing etc :-D

    Background retinopathy

Hi Ellen, I'm in the same boat as you at the minute – I went for a check-up last week and was told I had background retinopathy and if I don't get things sorted it can get severely worse. Luckily, the doctor said they had spotted it early on enough for me to make changes to my life and get my...

    Weed and diabetes

It's really interesting and there's a lot of research that's been conducted - so it seems. I think if I'm going to give up the drink for a while then it won't harm trying something else, especially that has the potential to have positive side effects. We'll see. I may also realise I don't enjoy...

    Weed and diabetes

Thanks for the response @EdMac – sums it up perfectly really. That's been pretty much the story of my life so far, and because the people you hang about with can do it you think 'well so can I'. But then I guess reality kicks in and we learn that as much as we like to think we are invincible...

    Weed and diabetes

Hey @zoze_j ! Haha course you won't get shot or lynched - you should be praised for speaking openly about it! I think people with diabetes should be encouraged to talk about these kind of things. I'm probably not a very good advocate for the condition but I'm planning on making changes...

    Weed and diabetes

Yeh it's a tricky subject really! I think the same can be said in terms of drinking alcohol too - if I'm drunk I'll eat and eat, and it's probably worse because in that tipsy state you tend to forget important things like testing your blood! Thanks for the response though - my aim is not to...

    Weed and diabetes

Thanks for the reply @LittleGreyCat! I guess there's a lot of arguments for/ against for alcohol/ recreational drugs wherever you look! Good to hear what people think to be honest. I wouldn't say I've got an addictive personality, or that I have to take alcohol to cope in my job (I actually...

Emotional benefits of using a pump?

Hi Amy, I'm probably as self-conscious as you can get and went on the pump about 10 years ago. It's definitely better than being on injections. I think it gives you more freedom as long as you keep on top of what you're doing. I have my pump connected to the top of my thigh and just keep it in...

    Weed and diabetes

Thanks for the reply @noblehead! Appreciate your comments. I think with the beer; one leads to another, and when you're out with work/ friends you end up drinking too much and it becomes a viscous cycle. I'm planning on not drinking for a while to get things controlled – especially as the...

    T1 diabetes in the family?

Hi Rosieice, hope you're well! I'm 27 and I was diagnosed with Type 1 in 1998. Two of my uncles on my mum's side (who died before I was born) had diabetes. My dad and sister both have celiac disease too – which I believe is related to diabetes so it sounds like it runs in my family... unfortunately!

    very high blood glucose. Type1.

Hi Alan, I have a pump and I've had it in the past when my blood glucose won't drop below 20 or higher. One thing that worked for me once was changing the site of the infusion set. Perhaps where you have it at the minute has become immune to the insulin? Just a thought anyway. Hope you're able...

    Weed and diabetes

Evening all! Recently I've been evaluating my Type 1 diabetes life. I've had it for over 15 years now and still struggle to really get good control. Further to that, I enjoy a drink and have a sweet tooth. I do test my blood as often as I can and bolus for meals so I'm not terrible, it's just...

    Dafne course

Hi all, Hope you're having a good Saturday! I recently went for my six-monthly check up at Guy's Hospital and I was offered the chance to join a week long dafne course in January. My only concern is that I don't want to take a week off work if it's not worthwhile - has anyone done this...

    Retinopathy questions! Type1

That's the all I'm thinking about, anything to prevent things getting worse is a positive in my view! Did they suggest to take aspirin on a daily basis then? Could be worth a shot! Thanks for the info on the surgery, I'll be sure to bear that in mind if they mention that!

    Retinopathy questions! Type1

Massive respect for having Type 1 for 56 years and having 20/20 vision. I'm sure that's enough inspiration for us all!

    Retinopathy questions! Type1

Hi @yardman, sounds like Moorfields is a good place to be then - heard a lot of good things about that place so I'm sure I'll be in safe hands! It's also good to know that there's a lot of treatments available to help/ prevent anything getting worse. Like you say, the most important thing is...

    Retinopathy questions! Type1

Hi Sam, yeh beats going blind for sure. I don't think I'd cope if that happened so definitely need to start taking measures to prevent anything like that. Scary stuff though, like having this disease in the first place isn't hard enough without all the add-ons that come with it!

    Retinopathy questions! Type1

Thanks @noblehead, I guess the reality really sinks in when you get referred somewhere for potential complications. I'm hoping it's been spotted early enough so I get prevent anything getting worse, and it's hopefully going to give me a kick up the **** that I need in terms of getting my BG...

    Retinopathy questions! Type1

Hi @tim2000s, thanks for your reply! I've heard a lot of good things about Moorfields so I'm looking forward to going and hopefully getting it under control. I guess with all complications with diabetes it's about getting the control right to have less problems in the long run. That's the one...
