    Won't Be Doing That Again!!

Most type 1s see numbers like that and worse all the time, intentional or not. I'm all for low-carb and good numbers, but if that's the worst that happened to you I say you should eat cake on your birthday!

    Does Lantus Have A Peak?

Lantus takes 2-3 hours to kick in and should be taken around the same time every day. It doesn't matter if it is taken at the same time as rapid insulin. I am not familiar with any rule stating your blood sugar needs to be a certain number before taking it. It's a basal insulin and if it's taken...

    Does Lantus Have A Peak?

Remember also that some overlap can be used to your advantage. For example when I use Levemir I take my morning dose 10-11 hours after my bedtime dose intentionally to have a couple hours of overlap. This helps with the dawn phenomenon and with controlling breakfast spikes which are often the...

    Does Lantus Have A Peak?

Ideally you would want to take about half of your total daily dose approximately 12 hours apart instead of the total dose at once, and that way each half dose should last about half the amount of time and there will be no overlap. Of course it doesn't always work this way and there will be...

    Does Lantus Have A Peak?

How do you know your Lantus dose is correct? You may need less. You may also need different amounts during the night and day. Some people split the dose and take it before bed and when they wake up, taking different amounts to solve this problem. I do this with Levemir, as typically I need more...

    Type 1 Night Hypos

Everyone is different. I feel way better if I wake up low than high personally, but obviously either isn't good. Like others have said, it's possible the Libre is reading lower than you actually were. I also wouldn't worry if it's just a dip into the mid-high 3s and back. I don't think this is...

New Type 1 Diagnosis - Honeymooning Heavily

Yeah, but it's good to learn how to eat these foods because you will want to eat them now and then and it's better to know how to deal with them than to avoid them forever I think. If you're able to get Actrapid/Regular insulin it has a profile that works better for foods high in protein/fat. If...

    Levemir Morning High Bgs

It isn't a given that this is something most type 1s experience. I suspect a lot of people blamed DP on this before CGMs/Libres came about and people could see what was actually going on. I've read it's more common for type 2s and maybe some type 1s diagnosed as adults. I know if I'm low during...

New Type 1 Diagnosis - Honeymooning Heavily

I think as long as you keep your blood sugars as close to normal as possible you will prolong your honeymoon. Of course, this is paradoxal since you will have the best chance of having good numbers as long as you're honeymooning! I got a pump a few months after diagnosis and tried to maintain...

    Mixing Humalog (50/50) With Levimer

I don't see why you would want to do this. Levemir is a long-acting insulin that can last between approx. 8 and 24 hours depending on the dose. What most people do is take it in 2 doses, morning and night, at doses that last ~12 hours, and then take only Humalog for meals. I am a freak and use...

    Does Fiasp Cause Weight Gain

Every insulin far as I know lists weight gain as a side effect, but for the majority of people it's not the insulin by itself that causes weight gain but how it is used. I'm not familiar with weight gain being a problem with analogs, I've never heard this before and never experienced it myself...

Type 1.5 Er Visit After Extreme Hypo (toujeo Malfunction)

It depends on your need for flexibility. If you need to adjust basal on a daily basis then it won't be a good fit since its long duration means dose changes can take days to take effect. It also isn't useful if your basal needs differ between night and day.

Type 1.5 Er Visit After Extreme Hypo (toujeo Malfunction)

Switch to Levemir or Tresiba. It's not a new formula, it's a more concentrated form or Lantus that was likely created because the Lantus patent expired.

    Degludec And Hypos

Yes, I had the same issue. I don't think there is a lot of understanding about how this insulin works for type 1s yet. Many have to split it to get consistent results, which runs counter to how it is supposed to work. When I reduced my dose enough to avoid the hypos it was no longer lasting 24...

    Does Fiasp Cause Weight Gain

I don't see why it would cause weight gain unless you are constantly going low and eating. There's nothing specific about it that would cause you to gain weight as compared to any other insulin. What I would expect is that you would need less of it for the same amount of carbs and that if you...

    Tresiba

I think the problem is most of us type 1s have different basal needs for day and night and a 24-hour insulin just isn't suited for that. Yes, there are people who do well on Tresiba, but I read just as many comments echoing my own experience - that it causes crazy lows at night and highs during...

    Tresiba

Unfortunately this is a common problem with Tresiba, where a single dose cannot meet your basal needs for 24 hours despite the marketing hype. You might have more success splitting it. What were your problems with Levemir?

    Changing To Lantus

You can inject as many times as necessary, I take a million shots a day and inject NovoRapid every time I eat something. This is what people on insulin pumps do and there's no reason it can't be done with pens or syringes. The idea should be that Lantus keeps you stable when not eating and...

    Does Fiasp Cause Weight Gain

As I said, Fiasp is the same insulin as NovoRapid with additives, so you are going to have the same problems. Unfortunately the insulin you are using is very slow-acting which is probably why you are having huge spikes. Are you pre-bolusing at least 30 minutes before eating?

    Does Fiasp Cause Weight Gain

Have you tried NovoRapid before? It's exactly the same insulin with a few additives, namely vitamin B, to speed up absorption. I'd wager your problem is not insulin specifically, but that certain insulins are causing you more hypos causing you to eat more and gain weight. What problems are you...
