    Miserable and Fed up

The problem is not your levels, they're excellent. The problem is with how they're being attained. The raised levels of Insulin in your system, mean fat burning is nigh on impossible. Insulin not only causes the fat storage, it prevents it's use also. Just as a matter of interest how long have...

    Miserable and Fed up

I've just noticed on your profile you list Insulin in your treatment, this compounds things, and means you have to be careful when restricting carbs, as this can cause hypos as your Insulin requirement should drop. As you can see from the essay i wrote above, high levels are the problem...

    Miserable and Fed up

Unfortunately the official definition of healthy food, ISN'T for us type 2s. Until you can reduce your carb intake (ALL COLOURS), you will struggle to lose weight. Drop the porridge and apples for breakfast, try Bacon and eggs, perhaps some fried mushrooms. Replace carbohydrate with protein and...

I wasn't entirely sure of the set up, but everything i read excluded metformin from the ability to get an exemption. I knew that everything was exempt once a certificate was given. thanks for clearing it up.

As you have regular eye tests there will be no damage to your eyes yet, and may never be if you can control your sugar levels. As opticians report any seen abnormalities. As a registered diabetic you get one free eye test a year from your own opticians. also when ordering a meter and test strips...

Just to add, as far as i'm aware, once you are on blood lowering med's, you can apply for an exemption certificate which covers all prescriptions. What was your Hba1c score, as this will most likely give an indication of the treatment plan. If you are on any others med's it may be worth getting...

    Tests - don’t understand

Well done for getting a monitor and strips. But if you suffer from anxiety please do not go mad testing all the time, have structured regime, before and 2 hours after eating this way your results actually mean something.

Just diagnosed & a little bit overwhelmed!

Probably enough is not good enough for me. By extensive testing early on in my diabetic journey, i now know which foods are a problem and need avoiding or treating with extreme caution. as a result i now very rarely test as the work was done earlier on. When driving i'd much rather see the...

    Calf muscle sure

I would assume it's the statins if it's at rest rather than exercise. I Had bad leg pains on statins, but i also had intermittant claudication due to peripheral artery disease, which caused pain and cramping with minimal exercise.

Just diagnosed & a little bit overwhelmed!

The reason you are told not to test is that if you are told to then they have to be supplied, a cost the NHS does not want. It's true that many people become over anxious and test to extreme levels. But unless you test you cannot know what affects your blood sugar, so needs reducing or removing...

    Type 2 Adjusting

Your body needs NO CARBS AT ALL, there is not one single essential vitamin or mineral in ANY carbohydrate. The only Glucose needed by the human body is for a few different Brain functions. The rest of the brain will VERY happily run on Ketones. The small amount of Glucose needed can and is...
