Feeling super down after getting diagnosed! :(

... and.. buy a comfort axe? Ok, perhaps not but from having spent a little time in the Arctic circle, the long dark is no fun. Neither is SAD, or seasonally affective disorder that can make people feel down in Winter. Some things that may help with that are vitamin D supplements and getting...

Cunning plan, or crazy idea? Fast to get glucose down

Thursday. Cold, wet and windy. Was this why the forum was down? Bedraggled hamster? Fasting 6.6 Pre-meal 7.0 Post-meal 6.6 Today's meal was inspired by bigos, so used up the rest of the jar of sauekraut in a nice low-carb soup/stew.

    'New' Breakthrough....

Ye, very much! Bit late to read and digest now, but thank you for linking it :)

    In the news.

I still want to see the actual results, ie the paper as published in the Lancet and supporting data. And then followups to see if patient's T2 stays in 'remission', especially if people go back to high carb diets. Main advantage to ND seems to be it's supervised and nutrient managed, so perhaps...

Cunning plan, or crazy idea? Fast to get glucose down

Wednesday. Was ol'one eye smiling on me? Fasting 7.3 Pre-meal 7.9 Post-meal 6.7 This suprised me. I figured I'd do a snack test, so 8 slices of dark Ryvita with a mix of low-carb toppings. The crackers run to around 53.6g carbs, but heavy on the rye fibre. When I tried with 4 slices of...

Feeling super down after getting diagnosed! :(

Heya, fellow newly diagnosed here! Look on the bright side, hákarl is low carb, just watch the potatoes.. and please stay downwind.. Some of what you're feeling, I've been going through. Some of what you're feeling may just be down to changing your diet, especially if it was a sudden carb...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Morning all, and it's a 7.3 from me! On breathing, I've found menthol or eucalyptus oil can help.. Usually a few drops on some hot water to vaporise it.

    'New' Breakthrough....

Hmm And DUK's soliciting for donations to fund more research. Which is nice, but being an old cynic, I'd much prefer them to PUT A COPY OF THE PAPER ON THEIR WEBSITE! The Lancet is a prestigious, high impact journal, but $31 is a bit steep to read the results DUK's funded. Naturally I'm...

Cunning plan, or crazy idea? Fast to get glucose down

And so for Tuesday.. Fasting 8.3 Pre-meal 8.1 Post-meal 8.3 For dinner, I pondered what I was going to do with the sauerkraut I bought, and made some shchi with some carrots, peppers instead of the spuds, and some beef. Tasty! For my next trick, I think I might try bigos.. Sadly, not in a...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Men are strangely attracted to fire. But 8.3 again this morning. C'mon liver, you know you can do it..

Cunning plan, or crazy idea? Fast to get glucose down

Thanks again for the comments and support :) So.. Fasting 8.3 Pre-meal 6.6 (Yey!) Post-meal 8.2 (Not so yey) Seeing my new low score, and having half a loaf of wholemeal left over, I figured I'd try a 'bad' meal. So 4 slices of bread to make 2 cheddar & pesto sarnies.. And I can see the...

    Hunger

Ok, ok, I apologise for gratuitous generalisations or stereotyping.. But the Guardian started it! And noodles are a right of passage, along with fishfinger sandwiches. Oh, and Koka noodles.. they're the best! I still think cooking and some basic life skills should be taught at schools though...

Cholesterol study flawed- high LDL does raise CVD risk

Research doesn't necessarily cost billions, ie it's not like designing a new, safer statin replacement. Some of the criticism was against literature reviews, which is relatively cheap. One criticism was for focusing on English-language reports, which could be fixed relatively cheaply, ie data...

Cunning plan, or crazy idea? Fast to get glucose down

I was more puzzled by BG going up between fasting reading and pre-meal when I hadn't eaten anything. Using milk in my eggs is just a habit to lighten them a bit. The sausage is a Polish smoked/cured one and 0.7g/100g carb, and also pretty lean. And the peanuts are a relative thing. I've never...

Cunning plan, or crazy idea? Fast to get glucose down

So maybe my liver and I need words.. Fasting reading was 8.4 Pre-meal was 9.7 Post-meal was 7.6 So a bit puzzled why it went up during the day. Main difference pre-meal was I'd walked to the shops, so maybe a glucose boost from doing a bit of exercise? Meal today though was 4 eggs scrambled...

    Hunger

So the Guardian again- https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/dec/01/ricicles-victims-millennials-peculiar-tastes Ok, so millenials can be an easy target, but I've encountered quite a few who have no idea how to cook. Some even struggle to heat ready-meals. I'm not sure if cooking/home...

Cholesterol study flawed- high LDL does raise CVD risk

Dead is dead. There are lies, **** lies, and... ? Which is the problem. There's a lot of money being made promoting statins, and a lot less money available for trials/research to study negative effects. Then there's PR defending positions and trying to keep us popping pils. And of course...

Cunning plan, or crazy idea? Fast to get glucose down

Carbs.. they're everywhere! I'm taking more interest in food lables, and this morning noticed that a 'healthy' tortilla wrap is 30g of carbs.. So the morning reading was 8.4, which being higher than last night is I guess my liver trying to be helpful. Bad liver! I may also have lost about 1.5kg...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

And an 8.4 from me. Seeing as it was 7.2 last night, I guess that's my liver doing the dawn surge thing?
