    Pumping getting me down

It might seem a little extreme, but have you considered a DiaPort? Your absorption problems would go away and you would never have to insert cannulas again? Have a look at : http://www.insulin-pumpers.org.uk/diaport/

    Freestyle Libre rather than cgm?

I am still on my first transmitter which I got in October last year - From what I hear, I am running on borrowed time. The Dexcom warranty is 12 months. I get between two & three weeks per sensor - which is good, but I wish they lasted longer!

    Freestyle Libre rather than cgm?

I use a Dexcom G4 and one of the best points about it is that it alarms if your BM goes above or below a pre-set level. As far as I can tell, the Libre won't wake you up if you are having a hypo, so (From my point of view), what's the point of the Libre?

    Pancreas transplant or DiaPort???

Thanks everyone for your thoughts - At the moment if I pass the tests, I plan to have the DiaPort as my first option.

    Pancreas transplant or DiaPort???

I have - INPUT are excellent! I was determined to go the DiaPort route but the transplant people seemed to think there’s was the better option. They have really put a spanner in my works as I was not expecting a choice. I have agreed to have the preliminary work-up and to see them again...

    Pancreas transplant or DiaPort???

I have been referred to the Oxford Transplant Team and had a long chat with the surgeon and a professor of diabetes the other day. It seems that I could have a pancreas transplant providing I pass the cardiac tests etc. I have also met a DiaPort doctor and it looks like I may have this option...

    Insulin...

Apidra - I THINK this the fastest acting insulin you can get at the moment.

If you had your time again...

Congratulations! I also use an Accu-Chek Combo. The one thing that caused me hassle the first few weeks was removing the cannula. My DSN told me that a little baby oil would do the trick – It did not! Trial and error has shown that Appeel medical adhesive remover spray (3500) and Appeel...

Dexcom CGM sensors have just gone from expensive to ridiculous!

Animas has just told me that I can no longer buy my Dexcom G4 sensors from them as I do not use an Animas pump (I use an Accu-Chek combo). This means my cost for four sensors has just gone up from £186 to £257.50 as I will have to go back to Advanced Therapeutics. I wonder if anyone has any...

    Excellent pump article

I was browsing the interweb and came across this article by the American Association of Diabetes Educators – It is just about the best summary of pump use I have ever read! http://www.diabeteseducator.org/export/sites/aade/_resources/pdf/research/12-30-11-AADE_Insulin_WhitePaper_Print.pdf

What am I doing wrong.. Aviva Combo

I discovered that when I attached the black collar to the cartridge and then the transfer set, I was squeezing the cartridge a little – When the squeeze was released by me putting the cartridge in the pump, it sucked in an air bubble. Try being gentle and not squeezing the cartridge – It may help?

Does anyone else have the same prob??

I have an Accu-Chek Combo and have a similar problem. When I do a cartridge change, I get rid of all the bubbles, but by the next morning the cartridge has become a spirit level. The way I get round this for the first night is to fit the pump upside down (Using the elastic strap that came...

    How long

Try Input. I have not needed to use them, but have heard they are really helpful. http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/

    When changing cartridge..

I was told to change the cartridge every 4 days, but the insulin manufacturer says every 2 days and the pump manufacturer says up to 3 days (For soft cannula). Every 4 days has worked for me so far, but I wonder how well the insulin actually works after four hot days in summer?

    When changing cartridge..

Hi Lucie75 I do change my steel cannula at least every two days. The point I was making (Very badly I guess!) was what about the insulin? – Who should you believe?

    When changing cartridge..

I have just been reading through the leaflet that came with my Apidra insulin (Like you do!) and it says ‘The infusion set & reservoir should be changed every 48 hours’. My DSN said it should be changed every four days (I use the steel Rapid-D cannula & an Accu-Chek Combo) and every three days...

    Maybe coming off pump

I agree – I would rather a slightly higher HbA1C than the fluctuating BM’s. When my insulin absorption is OK, I manage excellent control – I can easily keep my BM’s higher than five and less than ten for a week or so, but then it all goes haywire for no obvious reason. I am currently keeping a...

    Maybe coming off pump

Hi Pumppimp Thanks for the sensor info – I have just emailed Animas & asked if they can supply me. When I was first offered a pump, I was given a choice between the Animas and the Accu-Chek. I chose the Accu-Chek as it has a remote control. My DSN is also really helpful and amazingly...

    Back-up insulin

I agree it is a waste but my DSN said better safe than sorry. I also take a pen with me ‘just in case’ in a Frio pouch to keep it cool. One point though, I only ever take an Apidra or Novo-Rapid fast acting insulin pen with me – My DSN pointed out that should the pump fail, Accu-Chek will have...

    Maybe coming off pump

I have completed the VAT exemption form so don’t pay tax on the sensors. I have tried to get the sensors for a lower cost, but have had no luck. Do your Animas sensors last longer than seven days? I chose the Dexcom for its accuracy and the fact that the sensors usually last for longer than...
