    Coffee and insulin requirements

I need both in the morning. I mug of insulin and 1 injection of coffee, I of course don’t add sugar to my coffee. Or is it the other way around, I don’t add sugar to my insulin? For those armed with syringes please note that was a joke, don’t waste Coffee by injecting it!

Could you be a PM and have type 1?

Being an Aussie, I’m amazed she has survived that long. I have lost track of how many PM’s we have had in the time she has been PM and we haven’t been doing anything radical, well one PM was radical he said climate change maybe real and said that seeing that 62% of Australian’s said yes to Same...

    New to T1D

Welcome. Your medical team will bring you down to normal levels over time. A sudden drop may make feel very sick, temporary eye sight problems. Many teenage boys are an example of how resilient the body is to very high glucose levels as they rebel against treatment and eat a lot things they...

New user to forum / looking into pumps

I’m not in the UK, so I can’t tell you how to get one, but they are grea even the faulty ones. I would suggest staying away from Medtronic pumps (mine has just kept me up all night, again).

    Back to work

All firsts are an adventure. You will be fine assuming you now have control. For the first day or 2 plan to be a little high at work, then there is no fear of hypo’s and I said a little high not a lot, so there is no fear of DKA. You will get it sorted in no time and before you know it the...

Try having an egg instead of bread. If you must have bread multigrain only. Breakfast messes with me so much I skip it.

    New here ..

Welcome. There is very good reason why juvenile diabetes got renamed to T1. It will seem chaotic and impossible, but it gets so much easier overtime. A few here even think they are normal humans, the rest of us are beyond help, however Diabetes has nothing to with that.

    Pumps and night shifts

Hi Mel, Copy the current settings, but reverse them. You may need a transition setting as well and even an afternoon shift. I have only done limited night shifts, but routine is critical and that is for those that aren’t diabetic. Good luck.

    Phobia of needles

You will get used to injections very quickly. I found that giving injections like throwing a dart 1 move the pen (I assume) close back off, 2 move it a bit closer, 3 jab. They hurt less than blood tests, you will eventually realise this, it's pointless anyone telling you as you have to work it...

Benefits and Drawbacks of an insulin pump

The pump says "lost connection with the transmitter move pump closer" This is random I can go up to 3 days without a problem then 8 times a day. throughout the life of the sensor (6 days) I can guarantee on at least 20 times for up to 2 hours each time. When it really gets upset it starts...

Benefits and Drawbacks of an insulin pump

Hi, I have the Medtronic 640g with CGM. I have disabled the hypo prevention as the sensor connectivity to the pump is very problematic and unreliable. They have just released the new sensors in Australia and they maybe better. Pros Better control More flexibility with eating Fewer Hypos Fewer...

    High BG in the morning

Have breakfast as soon as you get up and Bolus and eat a little less or Bolus a little more if your medical team is allowing you to select your insulin dose. I’m now on a pump and I skip breakfast, so as soon as I wake up I check my BGL and correct and check a few more times and I’m good. I do...

    Insulin pen coolee

As long as you keep your pen on you and you use a pen in less than 25 days why do you need to keep it cool? I live in Australia and at least 3 times a summer it will be 44C or about 110F. Don’t leave anything in the car, but I have never had a problem.

    Finally got my GAD results

Welcome to our exclusive club. All T1’s here have been where you are. Many here have done it in a more dramatic way. It’s very common to be on an emotional roller coaster to start with. For most of us we were started with low doses and we increased over time. It will take a while, but once...

    High BG in the morning

Hi SimonPK and welcome to our exclusive club. I assume you are talking mmol/l. Low at night when asleep can be very dangerous. I would have a chat to your medical team. I think your Basil needs some adjustment. Nearly all of us go high in the morning, it’s called the Dawn Phenomenon. Your...

    Specific Exersize Question - Surfing

Because you are plying in water it’s advisable to be a little high than low, especially when you are new to D. My medical team prefer me around 10 when I play sport as I need to think quick and there are no second chances.

    Easter

I’m not diabetic at Christmas, Easter and close family birthdays, I have a worn out insulin pump to prove it. I reccomend Cadbury. For any Diabetics that new to diabetes, sorry give Easter a miss this year. I find that hot cross buns are worse than the hollow Easter Eggs. I’m not brave...

    Mysterious liquid in infusion set

They do apply lubricant to the piston in the resivor, hence why you have to play with it before filling. Assuming you have another set put that one aside and call Medtronic.
