    Puzzling Question

I would be trotting off to the Docs to be honest, you can have hypoglycemia without being diabetic and with those readings with that amount of carbs in the diet, I would imagine it is related to something else. Could be metabolism related for instance. Ali

Stress from household members and diabetes - please help.

Re: Stress from household members and diabetes - please help I would not be hanging around to be honest! You deserve better and your health is your priority. You cannot skimp on insulin because you are not properly registered abroad. Do you want the complications all for the sake of staying...

    CNOGA

I am type 2 so not quite so crucial for me to be sure of my readings at all times. Perhaps the VP would like to donate one to me, then I can be the UK guinea pig lol. :D Ali

    Rather bizarre readings!

The reason your readings are higher two hours afterwards than just minutes after, are because your body has had more time to turn what you ate into sugar, ie break it down. Just a few minutes after eating the body has only just started processing things. I agree with the others that it looks...

Pensions - civil service and old age

Enhancements to final salary schemes usually take place if you retire early due to ill health, not once they are in payment. If you have money purchase pension funds not yet in payment, you can ask your adviser to get you enhanced annuity quotes. Ali

    Contact doctor or not?

Do take the metformin, they reduce insulin resistance which is usually an obstacle in obese people. If you can lower your resistance your readings will drop accordingly. Metformin is considered a safe drug with some good benefits and yes, some people do stop it in time if they achieve weight...

    Am I insulin resistant???

Worth a discussion with your GP then as the Metformin can only help the insulin and because of what it does, it is not known as a weight adding med. Ali

    Am I insulin resistant???

Hi Lolli, do you take Metformin alongside your insulin? Metformin helps to reduce insulin resistance so it may be worth asking your GP if it would work for you? Ali

awaiting diagnosis and due to travel abroad ?

I take it from your posts you hadn't actually arranged your insurance cover before now? If that is the case have you checked your bank accounts etc to see if any of them have one of these packages attached that offer cover as part of the deal? If you had already arranged your cover then it...

need advice! insulin alone or insulin plus metformin?

The reason is because metformin reduces insulin resistance meaning you need less insulin and less chance of weight gain. Ali

Surgery next week and I've been thrown a curve ball!

Hi, I had the same problem, pre op for my knee arthroscopy and days laer diagnosed with diabetes with an HBA1C of 12.6. Anaesthetist said no. Eventually had it done with an HBA1C of 7.8 which didn't seem to perturb them. Good luck. A high reading means greater chance of post op infections...

    Byetta and the DVLA

Car insurers yes but not DVLA. I checked when I was taking Victoza a few weeks ago. If you were taking a sulfonylurea such as gliclazide with it then DVLA would want to know. Ali

    can someone help pls?

42 on the new scale is 6 on the old scale so your HBA1C this time around is 6 not 7.6. Ali

    Side effects

Hiya, been on hols for two weeks so took it easy. Still not feeling right and the Victoza has been an epic failure. My fastings are 8.5 to 9.5 which is worse than the januvia/gliclazide/metformin SR combo so I am off it from tomorrow. Blood tests on Thursday then I guess insulin. Glad your...

Help! Type 1/Lada or Type 2

Mmmm, yes, I know how you feel. I have been taking Victoza, it isn't working and this morning's fasting of 9.4 is terrible. Back to work today so omelette for breakfast to try and limit any rises. I think insulin is all that is left for me now. Roll on Thursday for the tests and hopefully...
