    My Hypo Seizure Story

You have to have a sense of humour about it - made it through ok (so far) - at one stage was afraid of going to sleep as I didn't know if I'd wake up the next day (was like that for a long time) - now I don't worry at all (but its taken a lot of work to get to that over the years and with better...

    My Hypo Seizure Story

Had similar outages over the years (once 'came round' in a smashed up car, in a red light district.....its a long story) but as others have said - the tech saves me from anything like now. My wife - bless her, used to keep me safe, but now has entirely been replaced by a smartwatch and a closed...

Resistance, is it a futile battle?

As @Tony337 says - its a personal way of dealing with resistance (51+ years using SDI, MDI, Pumps, closed loops). Was on Novorapid and Levemir for 25+ years - managed to over-inject in my legs and got massive resistance. Still can't absorb insulin on the old sites (15 or more years on). Now I...

    Lyumjev v Novorapid

Was using NovoRapid for 25+ years, switched to Fiasp (Novorapid with stuff in) and worked great for a few weeks, then became resistant. Switched to Lyumjev - worked great, then same issue. In the end I changed my cannula (9mm seemed to work better for me) and moved away from over-used sites...

    Dawn Phenomenon

It can be a challenge to deal with in Dawn Phenomenon using MDI. Novorapid doesn't really kick in for 1-2 hours in most of us (so your 10+ rise wouldn't be controlled by the insulin activity unless you could inject an hour before you're awake (which is simply impossible) :) Fiasp is Novorapid...

    Libre Trial

I got a free Dexcom one+ to try (they give them to you if you apply, which is nice) - more accurate and reliable bluetooth to my loop (as @Zinadane I use xDrip for BG collection) after 5+ years on L and L2. Have to say - I'm switching once I get a Drs appointment

Predictions when almost everything is unpredictable.

To use an American term - its all a bit of a cr*p-shoot :) To cover all this stuff I use: 1. CGM (know whats happening with my BG 24/7 and can see patterns and alter where necessary) 2. A pump - more fine control (for me at least - others prefer injections) 3. A Loop (either HCL or FCL)...

    Mulled wine

Its usually quite sugar-rich (and therefore carbs) and as @KennyA says - lots of different recipes so a bit of a guess. I'd estimate at 40g per glass (assuming a 175ml or upwards) and see what happens. It'll be fast acting carbs (most of the alcohol evaporates during its cooking) so you'd...

What levels do you become hypo aware?

Technology is my saviour - warnings at 4.5, feel 'ruff' at 4 generally. By that time I'm putting myself outside of a snack.....

    Motivation:(

Good you're looking to improve (we all go through bad spots). You can make changes which will prevent long term (or worse then today) problems occurring (impossible to tell if you have damage so far - thats where your medical team come to help. Consider a CGM (libre, dexcom or whatever) - to...

Not hearing libre 2 alarms during the night

There are a few options out there - I use xDrip (as the app to read my BG) - there is an Apple alternative to xDrip I believe but not sure what its called). And then send it to an Android smartwatch (currently Google pixel 2, but have used fitbit Versa, and any range of Android watches). I'm...

    Thank you

Can happen at any time - My understanding is you get an infection (cold, cut gone bad, virus or whatever) the Beta-cells in the pancreas look similar to the infection to your immune system, and the immune system wipes them out. Can be early on in life (most T1s) or at any point if you have the...

Not hearing libre 2 alarms during the night

I'm in Android but use a watch for just this reason (on vibrate during the night). Still possible to sleep through it when in very deep sleep but it covers most eventualities. If the watch fails - my wife wakes me up and tells me to shut the ****** watch up. Shes a great failsafe.......

I’m John partner of Sally Mercer

Hi @Jscotti73, Welcome to the forum - I get your experience of being aggressive when low (and grumpy as <expletive> when high) - type 1 does horrible stuff to the brain when your BG is off. After 51 years I've had to deal with all sorts of complications trying to live with it - one of the best...

ABBOTTS : Has anybody had TERRIBLE customer service from this company?

There is an advantage to using xDrip+ (or other app) there - allows calibration of Libre so the readings are more accurate (plus Libre or any CGM is most accurate during the middle of the 2 weeks running time. Start they suffer from insertion trauma, end they suffer from the body healing -...

NovaRapid & after meal blood spikes

Hi @Jjoshh - try switching injection sites - you can build up resistance by over using the same sites (I did with Novorapid many years ago). Easy to do - just inject into somewhere you don't normally. Watch for the insulin kicking in as expected if you've increased amounts to compensate for...

Travelling to the US and levimer

Hi @O_DP_T1, Have done this myself many times and was using Levemir and Novorapid for 20 or so years of travel to the US) When I did travel the medical guidance was pretty much non-existent, they either didn't know or said don't worry about it it will sort itself out. What I found actually...

    Insulin Resistance

Hi @Agraham1826, Firstly there are no stupid questions :-) - Diabetes is a complex condition (was going the type 'Monster' but changed my mind...) and no-one knows everything, its effects are different for us all but there are general trends - we need to experiment and 'guess' sometimes to find...

    Novorapid frustration

Hi @MikeEMike, Assuming you're a long-term Novorapid user and its stopped working recently? Couple of suggestions. 1. Try switching sites to somewhere you don't normally inject - it's possible to get huge resistance if you keep using the same bits over and over (I had this problem some years...

    Type 1 and going out

In t'past I'd carry a shed load of stuff (as most of us had to), BG meter, syringe, insulin etc etc. Now after pumping for 14+ years with CGM and a FCL, I may be a bit lax, but carry a spare cannula if going a long distance (where I can't easily get home), otherwise I simply walk out the house...
