    What is it

It's a squash. Not sure which variety though. I would treat it like a pumpkin or butternut squash.

Any suggestions for starting a low carb diet?

I was very lucky and got a dietitian who specialises in diabetes and gave me advice on low carb. My DSN and consultant also encouraged me to follow it cause they could see the effect eating carbs was having on my sugars. The gp and dietitian I had seen up to that point though were no, eat carbs...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

3lbs off this week. I've really worked at the low carb at finding out what works for me and what doesn't so I'm well chuffed with this loss. My blood sugars have been much improved as well which is even better news!

Advice please-High Blood Glucose and no clue why?

I also had problems with metformin when I first startedz. As someone else mentioned it's really common so it's worrying that your gp wasn't aware of it. There's a slow release version of metformin which doesn't cause the same bowel problems which my dsn changed me onto the minute I said I had...

Any suggestions for starting a low carb diet?

I'm on week two of low carb and getting into the swing of it. Breakfast is eggs of some description. Lunch I've found large chicken or ham salads to be the most filling and a yogurt and for dinner I have meat with lots of veggies. Diet doctor is a good website and this forum as well. I've cut...

Advice please-High Blood Glucose and no clue why?

Can I ask what medication you're on? You sound exactly like I was last year, even with the low carbs I could barely get my blood sugars out of double figures. My type 2 2 has been getting worse and I was on metformin, gliclaside and Victoza but still had high sugars. I've been on insulin since...

    Finding this hard...

I was recently put into insulin as well. You'll get used to the increased testing. Don't you have a bolus insulin to take with food as well. If only basal I would look at what you're eating to cause the spikes. Are you following carb?

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Started on lower carbs on Monday and I've lost 2lbs this week. My weight is currently 14st 9. Still need to reduce my carbs more but I'm still working out what works best for me.

still hungry on low carb diet

The low carb programme on this website is great and gives lots of advice. The carbs you want to cut back on are the starchy carbs like bread, pasta, rice, porridge, breakfast cereals etc. A bowl of porridge sends my levels through the roof even though it's low GI. If you're hungry increase fat...

    Type 1's carb diet

I'm type 2 but on insulin and I struggle with carbs now. My sugars rise and fall throughout the day if I have them. Everyone is different though.

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Well done everyone that's lost. I weighed myself this morning for the first time since 25th Nov and I've gained 9lbs. I'm starting low carb from today though so hoping better diet and less insulin means I'll start getting it back off. I want to lose 3 stone so I've got a challenge in front of...

When should I eat/take insulin for exercise

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to start low carb diet this week then try getting back to the gym when I've got the hang of that!

    Food shakes

For those saying metformin upsets your stomach ask your nurse or gp to put you on the slow release version. I switched to that and its much better. Only take it once a day with my evening meal.

When should I eat/take insulin for exercise

I'm T2 but started on insulin in September (humalog and lantus). I've not been to the gym since I stated insulin and between then insulin and poor diet in December I've gained a stone and a half. I'm really worried about going to the gym though as I don't want to hypo during a class. I normally...

    Soups and stews please

I made French onion soup tonight. 3 onions chopped and cooked over a low-med heat for 40-45 mins until starting to brown then add 3 cloves of garlic and beef stock. Season and serve. I had sourdough croutons but these are optional.

    Weight gain when starting insulin

I was given set doses to start with which is why she asked me to have a small amount of carbs with each meal if I can. I've only just started reading into carb counting so wouldn't say I'm matching it yet but I'm in regular contact with my nurse, checking my blood sugars before and after every...

    Weight gain when starting insulin

At the moment i'm on 3 doses of humalog during the day with meals and 1 of lantus at night. I was given starting doses and I'm still working out if they're too high/too low. I'm keeping a track of both food and insulin. I started reading a bit about carb counting and I've got an appointment...
