Question about raising your blood sugar before exercise

Try just going on a lower carb diet and watching your fat intake to help weight loss. Just be careful not to exercise on a bg in the teens as bg can go higher. I tend to sip lucozade sport whilst exercising seems to work. There are some other issues when it comes to real heavy exercising which...

    Cold weather!

Hot or cold can have an effect on your insulin requirements. There are also many other reasons you may need to adjust insulin. Just be flexible and aware that insulin will need adjusting from time to time to suit your body.

    Flu jab side effects

Like anyone you can have an adverse reaction to the flu vaccine. It is a new strain of vaccine each year so how you react to last years is no guarantee how you will react to the current one. I normally feel **** from between a few days to 2 weeks just depends on particular mix that year.

    Pushing a Hypo

Do the DAFNE course it is brilliant and they will help set the correct ratios etc for you and help with carb counting. Your brain cannot function on a bg of less than 1 so you are risking damage to this vital organ. Also having those around you witness you fitting then going into a coma is not...

Type 1 not allowed circuit training

Sounds like they are trying to do the right thing catering for "normal" people and lumping us in with the "disabled". I understand why you are annoyed as I often find this frustrating as well. I would challenge them on this heavily and point out there are Olympians who are actually t1's after...

    Alcohol?

I try to combine a meal into my night out so have some normal carbs to go with alcohol. Normally have a few beers and couple of whiskies to follow. Just test more than normal keep well hydrated and don't worry if you go to bed a little higher than normal as bg normally drops slightly. Red wine...

Do you carb count and adjust your ratios? I have different ratios for insulin for different meal times could be that you need something similar? Look for any patterns and if going high at the same sort of time each day up your insulin ratio for the meal prior to going high. Also exercising when...

    Do you feel your Diabetes?

Yes I can smell and get a funny taste in my mouth when blood gets to around 14 not sure if it is ketones but when test for them it shows zero ketones. Suppose it could be a very small amount and I am picking up.

High blood sugar all of a sudden

The odd day yes but if you are not ill and it goes on for longer you prob need to look at results and adjust your insulin ratios or basal.

    Pizza....the enemy!!

Pizza is a great treat and once you sort correct insulin regime that works for you it is not a problem. I regularly have a deep pan pizza and a couple of beers with it but do not have a major problem as split dose 50/50 the second dose 2 hours after meal finished. I may even have a ice cream on...

    Pizza....the enemy!!

On mdi and I eat pizza many times each month and find that half amount of total bolus before meal then half two hours after meal works for me. I am waiting for a pump since Feb and think should be easier to program a rate which does this a bit more controlled?
