    "The Truth About Carbs"?

The programme was better than I expected it to be. I took the point that most non-diabetics could slip in a slice or two of decent bread into their meals each day, even if I can't. I wish they had taken an average of the blood glucose readings before and after eating for the diabetics wearing...

For those worried about cholesterol and high blood pressure medications..

This is a cracking piece and I have just ordered James Le Fanu's book Too Many Pills.

Low or no carb lunch ideas...

If I don't use the staff canteen (where I get a bit of fish or meat and extra veg instead of spuds), I bring in leftovers from the night before. Today's was chicken thighs with pepper and sundried tomatoes with a cream sauce. Got it for lunch tomorrow too!:)

    KETO SEED CRACKERS

I make these most weeks as I love them so much. Great with cheese or just unsalted butter. I've never had any, ahem, toilet issues from eating them.

If you are in a chocolate store to buy a gift, and the cashier offers you a free chocolate,

If it's at least 80% cocoa, then yeah! Otherwise it's a no thank you.

    Low carb shopping (fav items)

Eggs & meat (from my local butcher) fish (from the market), tinned mussels in olive oil, cream (single and clotted), green veg, cheese, raspberries, nuts and seeds, butter and olive oil, and wine from Naked Wines. If I'm pushed for time I just get the lot in the nearest supermarket to home or...

    DIABETIC PETS?

My old boy Victor (see my avatar) developed diabetes towards the end of his life. It was before I was diagnosed myself so I didn't have a meter at the time. It was difficult enough to get him to stay still long enough for his insulin, let alone take a blood glucose reading. About three months...

Type 2 How do I deal with the stress of being newly diagnosed?

You're doing all the right things and don't be surprised if your feelings overwhelm you occasionally. My favourite way to wind down is to walk for an hour and take in the scenery and get nice and tired. I draw and paint in my spare time and that is a lovely way to zone out but be "present" at...

Is there an app that you can put your blood glucose levels down.

MySugr is brilliant. The only annoying thing is the giggling face, but at least you can turn the sound down within the app.

How not to fart on low carb ???

LCHF makes me fart less (hooray!). When I started eating more sauerkraut and kimchi I expected major gas events, but nothing happened.

    1st Diabetes review(type 2) confused and a bit gutted

I get white coat syndrome too. My GP practice has recently agreed to me posting home readings online for them which are, invariably, within the normal range. A couple of years ago I ended up wearing one of those meters day and night and spent the whole time fretting about when it was likely to...

Thank you! I feel younger too!

    Involvement

Yes, the advice given is terribly outdated so I take what I need and leave the rest. The current nurse/practice advisor (her title seems to change all the time) is pretty switched on an we have a pretty equal discussion about my diabetes and how I am managing it. When it comes to the doctor, I...

    Cheat meal

Luckily most of the things that I used to consider treats in the bad old days of low-fat, low calorie eating are now everyday items on my lovely LCHF diet. Cake is my biggest weakness but I've made some lovely LCHF cakes using ground almonds and stevia. Occasionally I do cheat - usually when...

    Xenical

Xenical is nasty stuff. My husband was prescribed it for a few years after being diagnosed and he had a miserable time. Eat any more than a speck of fat and you end up having a lost of messy, oily accidents and anal leakage. He was particularly upset one Greek holiday when, three mornings...
