The most/least successful things to do for managing blood sugar levels

Only berries for fruit in small amounts as fruit spikes my blood sugars. Probably not as much veg as I should, but asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and variety of frozen veg to chuck in, stir fry mixes and less often salads. Coleslaw with full fat mayo or yoghurt.

    Probably asked before but....

So cruel! I could try one a night! My cupboards do contain a fair amount of different gins, prosecco is also one of my go to drinks, but nowadays I’m a lightweight. Anyone know how long an open bottle of gin can stay in cupboard before chucking?

The most/least successful things to do for managing blood sugar levels

I started by googling carb content of everything I ate until I got to know and try to keep carbs to 20-50 a day. My weight has fallen, blood pressure back to normal, asthma improved, back pain gone, so for me change in diet proved a huge anti- immlamatory effect. I’m a lover of meat and cheese...

I’m very tempted to try the various gins in my cupboard and test, just for scientific knowledge mind!

Why are people rushing to NOT take the wonder drug?

Any drug has side effects as well as positive gains. Personally I wouldn’t take anything unless it was necessary and as far as life expectancy is concerned I’ll take what I get. Having said that there may come a point where I have no choice, then fair enough. Glittergirl_ that isn’t a failure...

Episode 3 of ‘things the practice nurse has said to terrify me’

I’ve had two diabetic nurses in last year, an excellent one who pointed me to this site and encouraged hba1c down from 71 to 49, then her replacement since she left surgery, whose attitude when hba1c was now 41 was excellent control on diet but you know it’s progressive don’t you? Just what I...

    Clueless

I thought metformin helped to suppress helpful little livers dumping glucose. It’s taken me 5 months of low carbing for the morning rise to be less dramatic but was one of the last times of day to be lowered. Abbot do a free trial for 2 weeks for a continuous glucose monitor that can be useful...

    Food and treats.

It’s my weakness too, especially if it’s wrapped around a peanut! Someone suggested moose based on avocado and cocoa powder, cream, cream cheese sweetened, which is nice and slows me down as I’m blitzing it. I usually have 70% dark chocolate as can’t quite get on with higher percentage ones...

    Type 2 Help needed

I’ve been doing keto, low carb whatever you want to call it since end June. I’m now off most of my medication just down to trulicity once a week, also off all hypertension medication and feel so much better. It’s well worth it in my eyes. I’d say go for it, but discuss it with health care...

    Coffee?

I know I probably shouldn’t but I’m sticking with the cream. I’d considered taking it black mind, just for a moment!

Full fat vs low fat dairy

Thank you, that’s useful, reassuring and makes me wonder how many of us were brought up on a low fat diet which might have contributed to our conditions. I certainly was!

    What's next?

Some of my other health conditions have improved or resolved from low carbing, typically under 50 carbs a day, preferably for me about 20. My bp is now normal all bp meds have been stopped, inflammatory back pain resolved and diabetic medications are in process of being reduced, not increased...

    Libre and libre 2

Hi all A friend that has now been put on continuous pump and diferent cgm has kindly given me two libre sensors that she hadn’t used (probably past use by date , but for my purposes absolutely fine). I’ve been buying libre 2 and using the app on my phone to scan them. Will the same app work to...

    Scared of high BS resultstoday

At the beginning anything I ate I looked up for carb content before I ate it. When I do spaghetti Bol I only eat the sauce loaded with fatty mince, my snacks I’ve tried making some low carb ones, chocolate moose with avocados for example. My fridge contains creams, full fat yoghurt cooked hams...

    Worried

Personally I’d have far more confidence in a medic that would give practical stance on condition and not just dish out medication. Go for it, we need more medics with more insight
