    Diagnosed Type 2 Yesterday

Hi, welcome, lots of people on here with a wealth of knowledge. I agree with you about how can we know what affects us without testing and that’s the first thing I did when I decided to work away from too much medication. The second part was realising all carbs turn into sugars which my body...

Insulin dependent diabetes and Covid 19

Like you I’ve never had Covid. I’ve been working in healthcare setting over these last few years and have been lucky. The one conclusion I have come to is that I’m as vaccinated as I’m going to be and I need to live as quality of life is more important to me than quantity. Covid in some respects...

    T2 and blood sugar

Metformin I now take at night. As for work like you I do shifts and emergency work. I’ve taken to buying low carb bread from low carb company, freezing it so I can slap a sandwich together for work along with sparkling water, prepackaged small cheeses etc and trying to include more salad stir...

    Strange numbers again

Really informative, I shan’t be trying any of his high carb experiments and wouldn’t mind some of those meals!

    Advice from any low carbers

Thank goodness we have here to talk sense into us. It’s a shame you didn’t have positive feedback on a brilliant achievement. At least she did congratulate me on what she called iron control on my diet and a fantastic achievement in bringing levels down, then spoilt it by giving me the eatwell...

    Steroids and spiralling blood sugars

It’s taken 6 hours to go from bs 15 down to an 8 where it seems to be levelling off. Head is now mine again! If liver putting out glucose as a result of steroids does that mean fat is melting from around it?

    NHS is finished.

We still have bed managers and a local cottage hospital. Sadly cottage hospital runs at full occupancy and another bottleneck as social care beds are in decline as people improve but are unable to self care. Situation predates Covid.

    Steroids and spiralling blood sugars

Don’t know about you but I’m a sensitive soul to some drugs! I wonder if a lower dose would be as effective with less side affects. There’s a huge improvement in my chest with one dose wheezing has stopped breathlessness reduced and coughing reduced!

    NHS is finished.

It is awful and becoming even more common down our way as well. It’s not unusual to se 6 ambulances outside a and E waiting. Two problems, one with people going to a and E inappropriately (I don’t mean those in the ambulances) and secondly nowhere to transfer patients to after assessment in a...

    Steroids and spiralling blood sugars

Thank you for reply, not asking for medical advice just interested in others experience. Unfortunately nurse I saw this morning wasn’t interested in chest just diabetes and steroids started after I’d seen her. I’m seeing someone on Tuesday for chest. I’m feeling like lots of little parts at...

    Steroids and spiralling blood sugars

Thank you for that, breathing has certainly improved after first dose even and I agree side effects of steroids are foul, feels like head will explode! Last time I had about 36 hours couldn’t sleep and could conquer anything to crash and sleep, ugh! Wish there was an effective alternative! I’ve...

    Steroids and spiralling blood sugars

Have needed to start short course of steroids for my asthma. I usually take 40 mags on daily basis for 5 days. First dose huge improvement in chest but blood sugars currently 15.7 and still rising. The last time this happened I hit 33 but wasn’t on low carb at that point and doc wasn’t...

    Advice from any low carbers

The sad thing is she’s quite sweet but thank you all that’s helped true, after giving me eatwell printed info, offering the training course (5 years after diagnosis) and offering referral to gym, I’ve declined. Bit late for training I’ve learnt more from here, eatwell info went into bin and...

    Just Noticed

Funny enough I’ve gone to weight watchers on and off for years. About 30 years ago the plan then was 2 portions carbs(their definition) 4 proteins 2 fats and I can’t remember what else, but looking back it might well have been low carb by today’s standards. I hadn’t been diagnosed diabetic at...

    Decaff coffee

I drink a lot of Swiss water decaf as get headaches and palpitations on caffeine. It doesn’t seem to affect my blood sugars, although I’m not sure if the cream I add has stalled my weight loss.

    Advice from any low carbers

Sorry post landed before I’d typed anything I saw new nurse in surgery this morning as experienced one now left, she is undertaking her training at moment so you would think freshly up to date. The bit that has bothered me most is “expect to eventually go on to insulin as this is a progressive...
