    Can I get drunk?

You can do a litre of vodka in a session, and you're still alive!?

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

So far this morning, two sausages wrapped in a Staffordshire oatcake, one cup of gunpowder tea and one cup of coffee. Yesterday's breakfast was fairly similar, but for lunch I had a bowl of spinach and mushroom soup, some cheese and a few crackers. My evening meal was a vegetable curry with no...

Cant find a cereal that doesn't shoot my blood sugar right up!

If you can get them (Sainsbury's seems to be the only supermarket near me that supplies them) try Staffordshire (or Derbyshire) oat cakes. A little butter and 30 seconds in the microwave and eat. Marmite, if you like it, wrap up bacon, sausages, etc in them. I love them, but maybe not for...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

So far it's been a couple of Staffordshire oatcakes - I know, I know, perhaps I shouldn't - two sausages, a cup of Russian caravan tea - no milk, no sugar, a cup of freshly milled coffee with cream, no sugar. Lunch will almost certainly be a bowl of soup, probably spinach, and later I'll have...

I thought I was alone! This could be me!! Other than I cycle 2 or 3 times a week - up to 20 something miles, road, trail or static - with a pretty well perfect BMI, metformin, gliclazide, alogliptin, pioglitazone, atorvastatin, low(ish) carb and still I struggle to keep my levels below double...

one Staffordshire oatcake, two cups of decaf coffee, several cups of various types of tea, a pear, an apple, a small bowl of veg curry, a handful of peanuts and whatever my wife is going to make for our evening meal. It'll almost certainly be fish with some vegetables. I've done a 20km cycle...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

2 reheated sausages left over from last night and a fried egg washed down with a cup of green tea and then a cup of freshly ground filtered black coffee. Stir fry with fresh mixed veggies and some fake chicken bits (made from some fungus or other). Tasted bland, so I pepped it up with some...

    Diabetes snobbery

There's a saying that, I feel, might be appropriate here. It mentions empty vessels and noise. There's another one you might like to think about too - it simply states that still waters run deep. Apply these as you see fit, to those who talk about diabetes.

    Unsupportive Spouse

I get the impression my diabetes and opted for diet is just something of an inconvenience for my wife - I frequently get the comment 'Oh, don't be so ridiculous' when I talk about it. I'm not sure whether or not it's tongue in cheek or for real.

Does your diabetes nurse weigh you regularly?

Yes, every time I visit, which is quarterly, unless I ask for an extra visit. I weigh within a pound or three of 12st 4lbs everytime. At 6' 1" this gives me a NHS calculated BMI of 22.6 - pretty well where it should be. I know this is an extremely crude measure, but I can still see my toes...

Your a diabetic you can't have sugar

Well of course, some of us can't, or rather shouldn't, consume too much. So why do you walk away and leave these people in ignorance? Unless you inform them, they'll never know. Nor will they understand LCHF - 'cos high fat foods are killers, aren't they!? After all, we're told that all the...

How do I say no to statins

Oh how I sympathise (and empathise) with you! My story has a few parallels - I have been trying to stick to the LCHF diet for sometime now - irrespective of what my GP might say (I didn't tell her) and I have to say I think I have had a positive result. It's not cured me (if that's ever...

    'New' Breakthrough....

I confess I was amused by the lady who, at the end of the report I saw, said 'If I can do it, anybody can do it'. She either had a very low opinion of her own abilities, or, more likely, she knows little of the problems diabetes poses quite a few of the rest of us.
