Should I be worried - just done a home blood test.....

My BG this morning was 13.9 - how do you think I feel about that!? If I had readings like 5.6, I'd be back on the bread, beer and chips!

What does the UK leaving the EU mean for us?

Only a minority of the public voted for it - twenty something percent didn't bother to vote at all. Perhaps they should have counted as being happy with the status quo as it existed a week or so ago. That would have meant a landslide victory for 'Remain'.

Type 2 Newish T2 diagnosed - need advice (please)

I think your blood sugars will climb and max out at about two hours after eating, so that's when you need to test. I reckon it will vary somewhat with the foods you've eaten. Just use the two hours as a benchmark and don't worry about others. It's also worth testing in the morning before...

PS, if my blood sugar readings were like yours, I'd be well happy!

Type 2 Newish T2 diagnosed - need advice (please)

I've been T2 for at least 10 years (could have been a lot longer, but it was that long ago when I was told I had the problem). I've been using Metformin and Gliclazide in varying doses ever since. My HbA1c had been steadily, but slowly, climbing every time I went to my diabetic clinics and my...

MY STRIPS REPEAT PRESCRIPTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED

I think you'd need to check that with your doctor, but get him/her to check if he/she doesn't actually know. You may be entitled. If you don't currently drive, you won't be facing the insurance problem. However, if you cycle or ride horses, it could still apply - check it.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

8.6 - that's 1.2 lower than a day or two ago. I do so hope this is a trend!

MY STRIPS REPEAT PRESCRIPTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED

If you're on Gliclazide you are obliged to test before you drive a vehicle and, if it's a long trip, every two hours into the journey. This is, of course, for insurance purposes. Gliclazide can cause hypos, if this happens whilst you're driving and you cause an accident (whether you had a hypo...

    Type 2 Life

My reading this morning was 9.8, not good but better than before. My diabetic nurse was pleased to tell me that my HBA1C has shown a marked decline since I was last tested - 7.5%. This still needs to go down, I know, but it looks like it's heading in the right direction. What have I changed...

9.8 Ho Hum, at least I'm down to single figures.

    Type 2 Life

I can honestly say that I try hard to reduce my carb intake. I compensate with high protein, eggs, fish, fat, fruit (apples and bananas mainly) and veg. Even the rye bread has gone. It's very nearly eating to live, rather than enjoying what I eat. However, if that's what it needs to be, so...

Bloods on Tuesday, review the following week. I think I'm preparing myself for a change anyway.

Not often any more, I get through too many test strips as it is. I rarely eat in the few hours before retiring.

    Type 2 Life

Metformin (3 x 500 mg per day), Gliclazide (2 x 120 mg per day) pretty well without much change since day one of diagnosis (slight increase in the Gliclazide)

    Type 2 Life

Nearly 10 years now. I can't remember what my readings were that long ago and I can't even remember what I was told my HbA1c was last time (I'm due another check soon). I've just discovered also that I need to give up coffee, annoyingly another pleasure denied me.

    Type 2 Life

I have tried to cut out every high carb food I can think of (I desperately miss bread but never eat rice, pasta, cakes, pastry, etc), I only ever drink a moderate amount of whisky, I exercise more (perhaps still not enough) and my BS readings, when compared with what I see on here, seem...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

I weigh myself quite frequently but not as regularly as I used to, but still several times a week. I'm 6' 1" and usually weight in at about 12st 4lbs (it varies by the odd pound or two from day to day) but I have a BMI of 22.7. More importantly, I don't have to bend over to see my toes...
