    Newly diagnosed and very scared!!

Hi Rebecca and welcome to the site. I was put on metformin but had to come off them after two weeks as I constantly had pains in my stomach and was being sick. I'm now on glucophage and to date have not had any side effects. You may just need to speak to your doc to get meds changed.

Hi, started the step diabetes education programme yesterday and came away feeling very confused. When I was diagnosed at the end of January my HbA1c was 106. Didn't really understand it so found this site and did a lot of reading. I decided to go low carb and then see how it went. I bought a...

Thanks. The dietician was a lovely person and agreed with low carb. Said I was doing everything right by testing before and after meals and she doesn't agree that all dieabetics are not given a meter and strips. Have lost a stone since the end of January and feel so much better. Just need my...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Went for afternoon tea today - booked before I was diagnosed. Ate four finger sandwiches, cheese, egg and 2 tuna. They gave me berry kebabs instead of cakes so thought my bs would be ok. Went up to 8 which is the highest it's been in the last 3 weeks. Just proves to me the lc diet I've been...

6.6 this morning better than yesterday's 7. No meds yesterday as changing to metformin sl on Monday. Readings before breakfast 6 after 5.9, lunch 5.9 after 5.7, dinner 6 after 6.1. The question now is do I need meds or should I try to control with diet only?

Not good again this morning - up to 7 :( Up sick during the night as I'm having bad side effects to Metformin. Spoke to DN and they are going to switch me to the slow release so hoping that makes a difference.

This morning I had a Lidl protein roll with a slice of cheese. Lunch was tuna Caesar salad minus the croutons and a few strawberries.
