Told I don't need to monitor my levels

Find a nurse practitioner... my GP told me to go away and keep my fluids up... (despite telling him I was drinking 3-5 litres a day) a week later I went to my doctors again and saw my nurse practitioner she sent me to AnE as my blood sugar was at 40 and keytones of 4... she saved my life...

    Being prepared

They say the best way to keep control is knowing what your eating... anyone else out there make meals from scratch in bulk and freeze them (writing the carb amounts on top?) Would love to know what everyone else is eating and how they're getting on...

Is your diabetes a day job?

Hi, I love your analogy, How long have you been diabetic? Has that attitude changed much since your diagnosis? I'm only a month in and feel like this, will it always be like that or am about to be hit with a storm of day to day worries once my "hunny moon period" is over?

Is your diabetes a day job?

I think this is a really good question. At the moment i barely see it as a part time job... I was only diagnosed a month ago type 1, and actually apart from the 5/10 mins before a big meal that I've never had before where I have to work out my carbs, I hardly think about it. 90% of the time I'm...

What will happen if we eventually get given a fully private health care system??

http://www.thecanary.co/2016/11/11/still-recoiling-trump-branson-quietly-buys-biggest-chunk-nhs-yet/ This just popped up on my Facebook news thread. It got me thinking atm as a diabetic we get our prescriptions free. If we eventually have to adopt the American style system, will we then have to...

Just about to switch from Lantus to Levemir

Also, my diabetic nutritionist said not to worry about doing the levemir at set times, (as i was told by my diabetic nurse on diagnosis) but just to do it as soon as you wake up and just before you go to bed...

Just about to switch from Lantus to Levemir

I have levemir, I started off at 12 units at bed time and on waking, but my sugars were still high, I'm now on 16 units and my BG is pretty much always in target (4.5-7.5) but I'm only a month old diabetic, so could still be in the "hunny moon period" as they say :S but I have no comparison, sorry

    Type 1: Alcohol?

I was a fan of flavoured cider before diagnosis, now I drink original captain morgans (not spiced) and coke zero or diet coke... thinks it's 0.7g of carbs per drink... pretty yummy (I can't stand vodka) lol the book/app carbs and cals says all pure spirits (rum, whiskey, vodka, gin, brandy) are...

    Items Labelled "Diabetic"

Might not be relevant (only diagnosed a month a go and still getting the hang of it) but before I was diagnosed I was dairy free and after my diagnosis, I was reading the relevant nutritional info and actually the dairy free ice cream had less carbs than the "diabetic" ice cream, and no doubt...
