    Encouraging poorer controlled diabetics

Some really interesting thoughts/opinions and experiences on this thread. I for one am in the middle, after struggling for years to sort my sugars out - shock tactics where the one that kicked me into gear. Diabetes is hard work and only us 'diabetics' know that. I do find that no matter how...

    Coeliac Disease.

I just wrote all this and it's not saved my post grrrr... short version: Have you tried Warburtons gluten free bread (Asda and Tesco should sell it) I love it toasted and occasionally have it with Jam, it's by far the best bread out there. I think the best biscuits i've come accross are in...

    hypo vs diet

hanadr, yes i've been reading about the low carb/non low carb diets to see where i fit. I seem to be on the high end of a low carb diet. I eat really healthily to be honest but I think because i'm also a coeliac, i wonder if the absorption of the foods and insulin work differently? Like last...

    hypo vs diet

Hi, yes I mean reducing basal - i'm on a pump sorry, i should have said. I did try reducing bolus a while back but I went high bs and it took ages to come back down, I never tried it again haha I usually have lucozade with me all the time but I've been trying different things to see if it...

    hypo vs diet

Hi all, Quick question, how are you meant to maintain or lose a few pounds if you keep going hypo with exercise?? I'd say about 60% of the time i can avoid a hypo by reducing my basal for 2hours before exercise but sometimes my body just does whatever it likes and i go hypo. Thing is though...

To Drink or not to Drink, that's the ?

I have quite a lot of Robinsons no added sugar juice, tea and coffee with the smallest amount of milk imaginable, peppermint tea and then a few glasses of pepsi max at the weekends. I think it's a case of just trying all sorts until you find something you like, I tend to give friends the rest of...

    Coeliac Disease.

Hi guys, I've got type 1 and was diagnosed with coeliac disease also about 7 years ago, they told me the same thing at the time, that it's quite closely linked. Thankfully the gluten free range in supermarkets/restaraunts are ever growing though. When I first got diagnosed you were lucky to...

    Hyper following a hypo

Glad you got her sugars down in the end. Keep fighting you're doing well with her, my mum was always the same with me and we eventually found the patterns :)

    Running - advice needed

Thanks Bucco, i've requested to join the group! Amazingly the other night I did a full 45 minutes without a hypo, I've no idea why because I did nothing different to what I usually do!

    Advice and support needed please.....

Hi, I agree with CarbsRok, sounds like your basal may need a good looking it. When I need to check mine I pick a morning where I'm not doing anything particularly strenuous and test my sugars, I then do not eat for two hours and check my sugar again, if it's high/low you know your basal needs...

    Question

Oh right, I'm with you now, yes have a good chat with his DN about it, I was quite skeptical at first but I couldn't part from my pump now even when I get annoyed with it. I think they do a test with children and use saline just so that they get used to how the pump works and what it might be...

    Question

Hi saffie547, yes you can but it would be advisable to speak to your DSN before you do so, how come you want to go back on the pens if you don't mind my asking? Are you ok?

    really fed up now!!

Hi Ladies, marie.T1 - Your not alone don't worry, my sugars we're all over the place when I was on injections, I couldn't get control of them, eventually I succumbed to an insulin pump and although it was very hard at first I couldn't be without it now, i'm so much more better with my sugars...

    Glucose levels and mountains

Glad to have you back phoenix, I climbed snowden earlier this year and was constantly hypo, even after a good hearty breakfast and a 50% reduction in my basal, so I ended up munching on biscuits and fruitella all the way up the mountain, but then on the way down I started going high so had to...

    YAAAARGGGH ...

It never ceases to amaze me what some receptionists are like, some are so lovely you could just hug them and then there are the others. You can't make an appointment at our GP unless you tell the receptionist the reason why you want an appointment, as if privacy and confidentiality mean nothing...

    Running - advice needed

Thanks Scardoc, i've noticed the same if I miss a day of running my sugars creep up later in the day. I've had to run a few extra basals if I know I'm having a lazy day. I did wonder about reducing my bolus as well as my basal but then I seem to go a bit higher afterwards, does this happen to...

    DVLA Revoked My Driving Licence

That's absolutely ridiculous! I'm sorry to hear about this. What is it coming too that we're now not even allowed to drive if we have a hypo outside of a car. I hate it when the forms come through my door because you just never know what boxes to tick any more. I mean what are we meant to...
