    i need your help

Discipline - because that's what it takes to stay healthy. or maybe Choice - as every moment I have the choice between health & well-being and self-destruction. (And sorry to hear you are finding it difficult to manage. I was diagnosed a long time ago, aged 11, and I think diabetes was...

    taking care of myself

You can do it, it just takes practice. I had been t1 diabetic since 1969, and managed fine from the outset as my GP was good about suggesting I ate cake or chocolate if I really felt I wanted to. But the swapping of some "bad" food for a "good" food every so often, whatever your definition of...

    Oat bread

I use a very easy recipe for rye bread. Mix everything in a bowl, leave it for hours, cook it. 300 g light rye flour 6g fresh yeast / 1.5 g instant yeast 250g water 6 g salt Optional extras - caraway seed, or cumin, coriander,... Put all ingredients in a bowl, an mix well. It should make quite...

    Best tip I heard today

Pretty good start though. I think this might be a simplification of 3 of Michael Pollan's food rules - Don't eat anything your great grandmother wouldn't recognise as food - Don't eat anything with more than 5 ingredients or ingredients you can't pronounce - Don't eat anything that wont...

    Insulin Pump Dangerous? And Omnipod

You might also be interested to know the UK has a system in place to manage recalls for medical devices. Everything, not just insulin pumps. You can see the latest info here http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Publications/Safetywarnings/MedicalDeviceAlerts/index.htm There is one for a pump on there...

    University Research

Hi John Here's my tuppence worth. When you have become a millionaire, based on my third suggestion, I hope you'll remember where the idea came from. 1. I use Insulatard, in 10ml vials. Must remember not to shake it (that breaks the chains in the insulin) just roll it. Thought about asking for...

I Just Can't Do This Anymore, I Quit..

Q, How about some figures to help allay the demons, as you consider that 2nd chip? You say your Dr is Dr Doom, perhaps the relatively low number of diabetic deaths might cause you to look at things differently? There are approx 3m diabetics in the UK. In 2011, in England and Wales, 4893 people...

I Just Can't Do This Anymore, I Quit..

I'm glad you have posted. Since I had a friend take his own life 10 years ago,, I take "not another day" comments literally, and I'd been concerned.

    Car Insurance

Hi. That is fine, insurers don't actually bother to record this. If you hadn't told DVLA, or you were driving after it expired, then the insurance company could use that at a reason not to pay any claim. But as long as you have done everything you need to with DVLA then you'll be OK.

    Home made Yoghurt

Thanks for this, you make it sound simple. I have been meaning to give it a go since we moved and aren't near a supermarket. I've been put off because I thought I had to sterilise all the containers. Do you bother? Thanks Christine

    swollen feet, ankles and legs

It sound like things are better than a few days ago, so that's a start. Sorry to hear you are feeling "yuck". I know what you mean about feeling normal again. The more I concentrate on getting perfect readings, the end-result is the more I am thinking about being diabetic. Maybe just the...

    Life insurance

Hi. We used LifeSearrch. They are a broker. so find the best deal for you out of a panel of companies. It was a while ago we used them, but their website says they have won awards for 9 out of the last 10 years. I am surprised you were turned down. Mostly they ask T1s to go for a medical, and...

    Cost of stuff

Actually, all this information is readily available. This is the page you want http://www.hscic.gov.uk/catalogue/PUB10610 It is known as the Prescription Cost Analysis. The page there has the data for England for 2012. It is about 600 pages long, and includes all prescriptions - everything...

    Champix

I haven't but my husband has. He did it over a year ago, and it worked for him, first thing that ever has in about 40 years of smoking. Since he isn't diabetic I am not sure of the effect it has on sugar levels. They do say it will make you irritable, and they are not wrong! All I'd say is...

    swollen feet, ankles and legs

That's excellent news all round, what with your ankles re-appearing and the great blood results. I am just curious what bit of Scotland you have found that is cool. Where we are (Kintyre), it's roasting. Phew!

    swollen feet, ankles and legs

Hi. Your swollen feet ankles and legs must be worrying, coming after the loss of your big toe. Of course I am not an expert, but there are many conditions that could be behind the swelling - even just the heat. The only thing to do is get yourself checked out by a doctor. My mother had similar...

    Dilema!

Well done  excellent results! As to your dilemma, if it were me, I’d resist involving my parents. There are a multitude of reasons why you might want to involve them, but I’d say none of those reasons are to do with improving your HbA1c. Your parents might surprise you by having some...

    cholesterol

There is evidence that fasting is not as important as was once thought - see this article on the British Heart Foundation site http://www.bhf.org.uk/media/news-from-the-bhf/news-archive/expired-press-releases/november-2009/cholesterol-tests.aspx In real life, doctors don't seem to have made...
