Do you have someone who can go to hospital with you? Because I think you need those levels (ketones or not) sorted out before worrying about bran flakes :(

Well the hospital needs to take responsibility then. Somehow make them, that's their job. I know that can be hard -- I have Asperger's and other conditions that make it difficult for me to be assertive -- but you deserve better treatment than that. I'm sorry, I'm angry now and can't think what...

I really want to help here and I do think that if your levels were more normal (maybe I'm misinterpreting them) you could have bran flakes. But with those numbers I can't think of a single breakfast cereal (plus milk of whatever kind) that I could tolerate. Microwaved scrambled eggs use only 1...

24.9? Is that in mmol/L? Is there a professional you can talk to within time and budget? Despite what I said earlier I personally wouldn't be eating bran flakes if my level was 24.9 mmol/L. I'd probably be taking myself to hospital :(

Sudden unexplained change in insulin requirements

Yes, back to normal now. So it will remain unexplained I guess

Sudden unexplained change in insulin requirements

I had this a few weeks ago. I'm on novorapid and lantus. My BSL went from 4-9 mmol/L into the 20s with no changes to anything. I didn't feel sick except for I couldn't sleep and ended up with a headache (which I put down to not sleeping for 3 days). I even went and got brand new pens even though...

    Might have to start insulin

I'm trying not to doubt this statement but I'm struggling with the logic because if that was true how would T1s, for example, ever bring their A1c down? Or are you saying that while on insulin if you're still in double digits your A1c won't come down (that I can understand) Edit: reading your...

Ok, in that case I would look at what the meal does to your blood sugar levels and if it's acceptable for you. I generally eat low carb because it reduces the amount of insulin I need to use but if you're on fixed doses that's probably a moot point. I eat bran flakes or all-bran 2-3 times a week...

Is your insulin dose fixed or do you adjust it based on the amount of carbs you eat (i.e. a ratio)?

    Would you eat this?

Yeah, the contour plus is my go to glucometer. Easy. Works. I'm only going to keep the Abbott one because it takes ketone strips as well (plus charges via USB... looking at it now I think it may be the Libre 2 reader but it accepts both kinds of strips)

Should I start on Insulin ?

What will I eat if you steal it?! It's ok, you can eat it, it's my standard lunch when I'm not eating sandwiches so there's plenty here. I buy the salad green mix in a bag from my supermarket. I don't use salad dressing or anything, I pour some of the brine out of the olive jar onto the...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

    2.8 (dexcom) 3.5 finger. Yikes!

Should I start on Insulin ?

Today isn't such a low carb day, but it's not insane I don't think. I wasn't going to post it but it's all locked in anyway so may as well. I guess it's all about for me but I don't think today is outrageous carb wise Breakfast: Same as yesterday Lunch: Ham sandwich (so two slices of white...

Should I start on Insulin ?

I'll add to my brief comment earlier. I eat low carb (not keto low, but low) and am on insulin and have achieved two things: a) My blood sugars (except for a few weeks ago where they went crazy and I think now I must have been fighting a virus or something) have been 98% time in range; and b) I...

    Would you eat this?

I don't know if this is relevant, but perhaps. I have two glucometers (a contour plus and an Abbott Freestyle Libre 2 -- glucometer, not GCM, I use Dexcom g6 for my CGM). I think that the Abbott glucometer might be more accurate, but how would I actually determine that? The strips for the Abbot...

Is 8.0 a "diabetic" number though? I can't think of a way to eat where BSL is NOT going to rise

    No

    Would you eat this?

The graph shows that they were about 8.0 2 hours after their meal unless I'm blind (which I could be). The OP is not a non-diabetic

    Would you eat this?

Well there's the problem That's a rise of between 4.5 and 2 mmol/L 2 hours after eating. Not a total rise of 2 mmol/L. If 2 hours after eating a rise of 4.5 is acceptable (as that link says) then I can assure you that your BSL rose a lot more than 4.5 between those 2 hours

    Would you eat this?

Thank you for explaining. I've been trying for a long time now to work out where the +2 comes from and have had no luck at all. Let's forget about the hypo correction comment, I'm not even sure why I brought that up, it's not generally an issue for T2s as far as I know. But what I'm saying is a...
