Diagnosed 3 months ago South Wales

We are in the same health board then, as I'm Neath Port Talbot hospital (in fact I'm there this morning for an abdominal scan after a raised liver and kidney function test on diagnosis!) My BS has been stable with the Metformin so far, so am hoping that I will be able to avoid insulin for a...

Diagnosed 3 months ago South Wales

Where in South Wales are you if you don't mind me asking. I have also recently been diagnosed and my GP thinks I'm 1.5 (currently on Metformin) but I am awaiting the tests. I've been told I should get it when I get my HBA1C in about 2 months. I also don't fit many of the type 2 markers...

    Sugar Level Testing

5.9 puts you right at the top end of what they class as "normal". 6.0-6.9 they class as Pre-diabetes. 7 or over as diabetic (of course a glucose tolerance test would then confirm for certain). I'd try a few mornings as you have had a high end of normal reading.

    Yummy Courgette and Mint soup

I don't know if there are any other allotmenteers on here, but if there are and you are having the same gluts as us then you might like this recipe. Even if you aren't here is a seasonal recipe anyhow  Courgette and mint soup 3 medium onions (I use red), finely chopped 1kg of...

    Bedtime drinks

It was very cold last night, even put my electric blanket on to take the edge off. Didn't make a bedtime drink, but will certainly try it soon :D

    Bedtime drinks

    Bedtime drinks

For the first time since my diagnosis I fancied a Horlicks, looked on the ingredients its over 70% carbs! Checked online and Ovaltine is the same. Any tips for a warm bedtime drink thats more interesting than just warmed milk?

I have 3 rescue cats.... Sabrina and Harry who are mother and son, they are 4 and 3 now, and in January we added Sophie a rescue kitten to the family, she's now 9 months old and the other two love her to bits :D We also have a flock of pampered pet chickens :D

Do you follow any kind of diet?

I do my own diet, making everything from scratch. It most closely matches the low carb, high fat as I eat a fair few nuts and quite a bit of dairy. Breakfast tends to be some fruit, nuts and a Benecol yoghurt drink. Then if I have something with carbs for lunch, I don't for tea and vice...

    injections at work

I don't inject, but I do test my blood.... I do it at my desk. One colleague takes issue with it, she can go whistle! The way I see it, it's her problem not mine.... If she wants to go to the toilet or walk away from her desk when I do it that is FAR more appropriate than trying to make me...

    That voice in your head...

Whilst I obsessively meal plan to balance/minimise my carbs, I will not allow my diabetes to define me as a person. I just find different ways of getting excited. It does help that we have an allotment, and when we pick veg I can plan to cook seasonally which keeps up interest and excitement...

Type 1.5 and Metforminin... how long?

I want to test regularly to see the effect different foods have on my BS, the only way to do this is to test before and after meals. Can't see that I'll do it that much long term, but for the time being I want to keep a tight rein on it.

Type 1.5 and Metforminin... how long?

I haven't had my GAD antibody test yet, they will be doing it in the hospital when I have my HBA1C test in a couple of months. However, the diabetic expert GP believes I am a 1.5 not a 2. I have been prescribed Metformin and am testing my BS about 6 times a day before and after meals. For...

    Channel 4

It made me incredibly annoyed... it was like a diabetes freak show... kind of Big Brother meets diabetes.... making them have the two diets side by side was cruel. Also, the assumption that type 2 is curable I also found upsetting. I became diabetic due to genetics, I already ate a low carb...

How hard can it be to get my repeat prescription right

Not all GP practices use EMIS... EMIS is one GP system supplier along with others like InPractice, Exeter etc. So it would depend if the practice offered this facility. You are right though, even though I ordered mine online, when I collected yesterday despite requesting my Metformin as well...
