Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Thanks I notice at the national diabetes conference in two weeks they are having a big debate on 'Is it time to stop telling diabetics to eat carbohydrates ' so I feel the subject is on the move now and won't be stopped

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Well part of the approach was that though not a diabetic I and several members of the team have been on a low carb higher fat diet for over a year now and although I lost about four pounds (that I needed to loose )at the start my weight has been very stable ever since . For me the benefits have...

Yes , for years I struggled with commenting on people's weight in case that upset them, more recently I find many people are more open to the choices that are theirs to make with diet and lifestyle

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Looking through the forum I was sorry to hear how some of you met a rather closed response from your health professionals .About two years ago I began working with a group of 19 pre-diabetic and type two diabetic patients (insulin dependent patients were not included) who were interested in...

    Grain Brain

I too found this book very interesting ,particularly appreciated the clinical evidence he cites to back up what he claims Apparently a low cholesterol is overall a worrying thing ! I intend to read the book a second time as want to think through what he says about inflammation and insulin He...

Have you cured or reversed type 2

Good Question -I have known five or six diabetics whose HbAic has normalised within a few months of starting the low carb diet What has also happened is a great improvement in liver function and blood pressure- I expect this would reverse if they went back to their old diet -however while they...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

I agree -each person seems to find their own version of the low carb diet ,one that suits them best while broadly avoiding carbs. GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

I have been interested to hear from folk who have been using the low carb approach for longer than two years as the medical world while accepting the short term weight loss and other benefits worries about possible long term effects - though for my self I strongly suspect it's just as good on...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

Firstly sorry for the typo- Southport uses the IFCC Standardised units which are mmol/mol. I'm amused to be thought a troll but I am a genuine GP- Last year one of my diabetics lost a great deal of weight and I was amazed when her HbA1c dropped to 35 mmol/mol and she was able to come off all her...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

Yes I have found some resitance from proffesionals concerned about long term possible harm, which in some ways i can understand - yet when pressed they cannot tel me what form that harm may take when BP, weight, cholesterol & liver function and HB A1c are all better on the diet and my patients...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

I put it up to show at least there is one doctor who believes in this approach -and you know what it was great fun!!-wonderful to see patients taking control for themselves. I have started doing this research to try and convince more doctors to give it a try -IT WORKS and FAST!
