    Lamb Moussaka carbs?

Look at the 100 Rule to work out your correction factor and use the NICE bg targets to calculate to. My correction factor on mdi was 1u to lower by 3mmol so if my bg rose up to 12mmol, I corrected back to 8mmol which is what NICE recommends more or less 2.5hrs after eating a meal. So 12mmol...

    Diabetes has ruined my life

That's yr problem unfortunately. You are too slim and need to put on some weight around your tummy, legs and backside. Also scar tissue does tend to happen for most people using pumps so ask for a scan to be done at your hospital. I think someone posted a msg on fbook about a cream called...

    Diabetes has ruined my life

Hi, I've been type 1 for 51 yrs now and started to use a funded pump 7.5yrs ago. When I first got my Combo pump everything was lovely etc but after 4 months and trying a different technique to fill the cartridges, I then started to get the occlusion warning going off at all different times in...

    Hypo vomit?

I in no way have perfect bg levels all day long, that's for sure but before pumping, I had some hypos from hell and would have been dead in bed if it wasn't for my partner getting glucose gel and lucozade into me. Hasn't your Omnipod got the IOB feature to it. If you went to bed 2hrs after...

    Hypo vomit?

I always make sure that I eat enough carb to use up any IOB if my bg levels are below my ideal target. Tea with clotted cream probably wasn't enough carb and it would definately give me bad heartburn. Not surprised that you went low and was sick.

    30/70 to modern regime

Look up Accounting for Unused Insulin on Google. It's by Gary Scheiner and explains how to calculate a bolus dose within 3hrs of eating a meal.

    30/70 to modern regime

Get an insulin pen that has 0.5u increments on the doseage. If you were using a ratio of 1u to 8g of carb and eat 30g, then you would need 3.6u which on a 0.5u pen would be 3.5u and not 4 or 3u. This does help quite a lot.

    30/70 to modern regime

Match insulin to carb is another way of saying get the correct insulin to carb ratio sorted for different times of the day which is easier to achieve through bg testing and using bg targets to calculate the dose needed. You don't need to do a DAFNE course for that but getting advice regarding...

    30/70 to modern regime

I didn't do any basal rate testing myself but got round the MDI regime by testing bg levels every 2hrs, logging down the grams of carb eaten, the bolus dose and then tried to adjust the carb ratio and try to get the same bg levels according to the NICE bg guidance. For me I decided to pick...

First day on the slopes with the Libre!

We always used thin plastic supermarket carrier bags to keep our feet warm on the slopes. They worked very well and dried out in no time by turning them inside out. For hands we used the plastic hand protector gloves inside the boxes of hair dye. My partner also uses these to keep his hands...

    Merry Christmas

My tip re pumps is try to test bg levels every 2hrs during the night. This will help the pump dsn set up the basal rates correctly instead of just using the same amount of insulin for every hour. Also, walk first with a pump and only run when confident with using the different ways of...

    Dexcom g5

Xdrip runs on android 5.1 and upwards. There is an IOS version of it but can't say how good it is because I don't have apple. Look on social media for all the info. Good luck with the G5 and the sensors. I've gained lots of info from people using it. I insert vertically now in my tummy and...

    Dexcom g5

I use that famous android app with my G5 transmitter but use my pump with my G4. I get about 3 weeks with a sensor on my tummy or leg and 4 to 5 weeks with sensor on my arm. I get me money's worth out of this technology

    Rant and any advice welcome!

I sometimes have to tweak my basal rates leading up to a change in bg levels but I usually wait about 2 days to make sure that the change isn't due to incorrect carb count etc. Sometimes I need more insulin in the day but sometimes the change can happen during the night. I now use Dexcom so I...

    Animal insulin pump

Why don't you get the pump and agree to use analogue insulin for a while and if it doesn't work out, switch to pork insulin. Beef insulin is being withdrawn but pork is still available.

    Skin tac alternative

I use cosmetic body glue to keep my Dexcom sensors stuck to my skin. Doesn't cost much and a bottle lasts for ages and is easy to apply. My CCG won't fund Skintac so I use the glue instead.
