    DAFNE Course and Basal/Bolus Insulins

How much carb are you eating in your meals Eddy? If you test your bg levels every 2.5hrs, you should be a ble to adjust the carb that you eat so that yr bg levels balance out better so you keep to good targets like 6mmol before a main meal then allow for a rise upto 8.5mmol by 2.5hrs which...

    Choice of pumps

I think the best way to find out about pumps is to try and meet other pumpers and see the pumps in real life and how the different menu screens work

Hi I went for a medical up in London regarding getting a provisional licence which was needed at the time re diabetes. I got the provisional and passed my driving test. When I applied for a full licence, it got sent back to me to run until I got into my 70 ' s. I didnt query it for many...

Refused blood sticks by GP (Type 1)

Insulin pumps cost a CCG around £3000 to puchase and about £1500 per year for consumables. There is no point in anyone having a pump if it's safety in being used ok is going to be jeopardised by not being able to bg test as and when needed. It just makes it all a waste of money. Admittedly the...

    Pump accessories

In real life there are not too many diabetics like Tim2000s. Diabetes affects people from all walks of life including slightly dimwits like myself. The Pumping Insulin book is good but starts to mean more to people once they get a pump and start using it and then the info in the book slowly...

Unable to bring levels down, getting silly now

Hi Just in case insulin going off is the culprit, try to keep pens away from radiators. I always tried to keep my pens in my hallway near the front door which was fairly cool. The basal could be stored this way and only the lunchtime bolus would need to be used wherever. As Azure has stated...

    Pump and weight loss

I think the reason why pumpers lose some weight when they first start is because less insulin is needed than using injections. I lost some weight even though I had some bolus free carb snacks to deal with mild hypos.

Hard to get blood sugar down

@Pota If moving to a different area doesn't sort the problem, it might be that a 30 degree angle or 90 degree steel needle set is what is needed and of course the Omnipod doesn't have. This was one of the reasons why I didn't push for a patch pump just in case. Let's hope though that moving...

Has anyone managed to live without Type 1 diabetes complications?

I will have been type 1 for 50yrs in February and apart from carpal tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulders and a touch of background retinopathy in one eye in my mid 50's, my life with diabetes has been fairly good even with some bad hypos at times. I am very lucky that a lovely bloke came into my...

    Flex links

In all the years that I used the Combo pump with Flexlink sets, Ive never had the clip coming unattached from the set. The set is well designed and has the tube clip needle inside a clear plastic funnel that literally slides over another funnel on the set itself - male to female connection...

Basal rate tests over 1 or 2 days?

I don't work anymore so I just have 1 basal rate programme to deal with weekdays and weekends. If I go out and do some form of long walks, I sometimes do a tbr if I can remember or just eat some carb to deal with bg dropping. The problem with different basal rate programmes is that when bg...

    Can anyone help?

Hi With bg levels as high as yours, you will be drinking and weeing for England and will feel thirsty, tired and very fed up. First off your diet Bananas for most diabetics cause bg levels to go upwards very quick so until you get the insulin ok, best to knock them on the head and eat...

Where do I start with crazy BG?

The Comfort set is more or less a Tenderlink. It has a thicker introducer needle than the Inset 30 (I took a 30. apart using some hedge trimmers to cut through the plastic housing so that I could get to the white spring). The 30 does need the spring insertion otherwise the introducer will bend...

    apidra insulin

@Sonnyb2 I have used Apidra insulin with Levemir and also Apidra in an insulin pump. Apidra works a bit quicker than Novorapid so it might prevent the high spike that you are getting. Its acting time is more or less the same as Humalog. Novorapid benefits from being injected about 20mins...

    Infusion set leaking every day?

Hi Hopefully some Insight users will post but in the meantime have you asked Accuchek to send you another Link Assist only it might be the spring mechanism in the device that is not firing correctly? Also, are you sure that the tube clip to the set is attached firmly? Lastly, if you cannot...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

I put another G4 sensor 32 days ago in my arm about 4 ins up from my elbow and only slightly on the side so that if I layer on my side in bed, the sensor wouldn't really come in contact with the mattress. I also played safe and put another pillow underneath me to reduce mattress contact. I...

    Temp Basals

Although sneaking carb without doing a bolus would cause high bg levels, doing a tbr increase of 200% should lower them. If fo food eaten over Xmas has caused weightgain, then the basal need will change and need to increase so that the tbr will start to work as it should. Try and do a basal...

@Dashing what you've got to do tomorrow is send the FAULTY pump back to Roche in the packaging that they sent to you with the replacement. If you don't, they will want to know why. You will have a customer number set up with Roche so dont worry, the replacement pump is for you to keep and...
