    DVLA licence renewal

So, what about those who experience the hypo feeling and treat it before it gets bad but dont do a bg test so dont record it and what about those who use cgm or the Libra? Just how low is a bg meant to go before it gets classed if recorded on a meter as a hypo, for the DVLA to pass judgement?

    Help please!! Insulin ratios

Never used Toujeo so have no idea what it's effect on bg levels is like, but NICE recommend a bg level of about 5 to 6mmol before a main meal, then allow a 2.5hr rise of about 8.5mmol which without eating a snack, should fall back to 5 to 6mmol again by the time the action of the bolus has more...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE still not sure

The best way of trying the Libre is to go to one of the diabetes events held across the UK .....DUK and JDRF and get a voucher for a free sensor and reader. Try before you buy :)

    Dexcom G5

It will be reasonably accurate without food being eaten but give it 2-3 days for the sensor wire to bed in and you'll be addicted to using it. It's educational lol

    Basal testing failures and hypos

Basal rate adjustment table is on page 142. Adjust all your basal rates to a bg target and look to see how much your bg levels drop or increase and then using the table work out how much insulin you will need to adjust to get to the target bg you want. Good luck and take it all in your stride...

    Dexcom G5

Sometimes it can take a while for an app on a phone to recognise the transmitter ID number so if a reboot on phone doesn't work, just start the sensor warm up as usually for me, the transmitter gets recognised after about 30 to 45mins.

    Basal testing failures and hypos

It took me ages to get all of my basal rates okish....I was either going down to 4mmol so had to stop the test or going up to 9mmol so stopped. In the end, I staggered the times that I had food with a bolus by 2.5hrs so instead of eating at 6pm, I had a meal at 8.30pm which allowed me to get...

Working manual labour with carpal tunnel syndrome

This sort of depends on how much lifting and gripping things with your hands that you do. CTC is usually very troublesome during the night when asleep resulting in pins and needles in fingertips but can also be uncomfortable during the day so anything that puts a strain on the median nerve...

Type 1 Using Skintac with Abbott's Freestyle Libre - has anyone tried it?

I use cosmetic body glue suitable for sticking glitter beads to the skin which works like skintac but is much cheaper. It comes in a nail varnish bottle or like eye mascara with a wand. Not much is needed so a bottle should last a long time.

    Insulin not lowering BS

Hi @Lord Midas It's fairly common for different areas on the body where sets are placed, to need a different basal rate due to absorbtion issues but it's also common for basal levels to change anyway due to weather temps changing or bodyweight changing. Try changing back to the other area and...

    Animas vibe battery life

I usually get about 5 days grace when the 2 bars show but this changes to 3 bars, then 2, then 3, then 2 and then down to 1. When 1 bar shows, I then insert a new battery. On average, I get about 2-3 weeks with lithium but no more than about 10 days with the energiser eco so I suspect that my...

Who is troubled by injecting in public? Just me?

Most certainly was .......imagine a fingerprick setting of 6 and you get the picture lol. I used it about 4 times a month and used Clinistix instead until 1983 when I bought a Cardsense meter which had a memory of 10 and the teststrips available by prescription. I later bought a Thereasense...

Who is troubled by injecting in public? Just me?

I used Clinitest in the mid 60's but by the time 1969 had come, I was using Clinistix at school and thought how great They were. I carried on with Clinistix until 1976 and switched to the awful BM strips which had that dreadful finger pricker.

New to pumping - little anxious

Sometimes when I insert a set, there is a tiny bit of discomfort which might last for about 30 to 60 mins when I press on it but usually the discomfort subsides and the set works ok so no need to remove it unless it really hurts.

    Animas Vibe users..Advice please

Hi you can change yr cartridge when it runs out of insulin. You don't have to change the set and the cartridge at the same time if you don't need to. I often replace the sensor on a different day to the cartridge. It's easy to do on the Vibe.

    Hypo frequency against severity

Hi to all you hypoers get yourselves onto cgm. Although the alarms can be a bit embarrassing at times, cgm is a godsend during the night whilst asleep and can wake you up before a bad low starts that might need third party help. I would imagine that millions across the world will all sing...

    fed up

The best people to see regarding insulin not controlling bg levels is a diabetes consultant or dsn at a diabetes clinic. There are dsns on duty at most clinics who will see a diabetic and get the right help

    Pump options

okMenu which my DSN showed me, but I've never needed to use it so have forgotten what it is : D 4 I tend to let the Vibe switch itself off and then by pressing the OK button, I'm back to the home screen again so I don't tend to mess about navigating through the menu screens

    Pump options

The Vibe has a history menu which will bring up the bolus doses and the times it was delivered but it won't log the bg test that was done or the carb that was eaten. The only way to see all this data together is by uploading to Diasend which needs a decent internet connection and a netbook or...

    Pump options

@kimrooney89 The Vibe is good in many ways but dreadful in others. The menu screen is LCD with flashing yellow text that's not that big and is dreadful to see in outdoor sunlight. I tend to use a long tube with it so that I can keep the pump in a zipped compartment at the back of a satchel...
