Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

I had to give you optimistic for that - if only! No, i still have lows even when i think i've done the right amount of insulin. There's so many factors involved - insulin sensitivity which goes up and down, activity, mood (if you're excited about something you have a faster heartbeat, so more...

    Low Sugars

I'm also on Tresiba and have a similar issue, but the drop is usually predictable for me. Talk to your DSN if you can to confirm, but i'd suggest dropping by 1unit to manage the morning hypo and maybe a slight increase in bolus IF you start going high throughout the day. Please don't take my...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

You probably already know this... but writing has helped me to figure it out :) The liver converts some of the sugar in the blood to glycogen and stores it. This is another type of glucose sugar. Glucagon (another hormone produced by the pancreas) is in charge of not letting the body's blood...

What if I'm not a Type 1 Diabetic???

Isn't 5 or 6 the ideal? And you said in your main post you were on 7units of basal? No one here will be able or qualified to explain it accurately for you until you get some proper tests done, like a lot of people have suggested :)

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

Me too as a child, although i was mostly able to be treated at home. I tended to wake up just as the paramedics arrived :) met some lovely people in the meantime ha!

    Books on diabetes and depression

I'm not sure whether there is a book about it but there are links between diabetes and depression that are discussed in online articles. Part of it is just the day to day hassle of it all that gets people down. Part of it is biological/chemical. Poor control can often lead to feeling physically...

What if I'm not a Type 1 Diabetic???

I'm a skeptic with reflexology too, but then i've never tried it so who knows? Without being crude, we all know that stimulation of certain areas of the body can trigger hormone release. At the end of the day, insulin is a hormone. Something to think about :) But again, no reflexologist is...

What if I'm not a Type 1 Diabetic???

Not sure about that, but there is some kind of link between reflexology and the pancreas. Have a google, it's mad!

What if I'm not a Type 1 Diabetic???

I'd also be interested to hear about this, i'm hoping for my first within the next 2 years, currently on Tresiba but if there is a better basal for pregnant women, i'm all ears!

What if I'm not a Type 1 Diabetic???

I don't know enough about the biological changes to be able to advise much. It sounds like you're suddenly becoming a lot less insulin resistant, and there are T1s who go through phases of taking barely any basal at all. I think needing 22units of basal originally would mean that you were...

1st time T1 has got me down

Hi @Diabeticger ! The sadness about it will come and go, but unfortunately as you probably know, T1 is for life. But you can't blame yourself for it, or ask "why me?" T1 is an autoimmune disease, yes there can be factors putting people more at risk but its the luck (or un-luck) of the draw. It's...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

That would depend on your liver and it's sugar stockpile that gets dumped in this kind of situation. But as i'd been drinking, i'm not sure it would dump anything as it would be too busy filtering the alcohol out of my system!

    Scar tissue build up?

I'm definitely asking DSN to have a look at injection sites. I have minor issues with my feet anyways, but i don't need anyone to tell me that again ha! Whenever i've had them checked up they prod different places with a little stick thing and ask if i can feel it. I always can, so nothing for...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

You and me both - i think my boyfriend was considering calling an ambulance for a while as my readings wouldn't budge over 3.5 for about an hour! I was almost delirious, looking back it would have been funny if i weren't so scared!

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

Depends on the insulin doesn't it? If you're on something like Levemir, does it not "kick in" a lot sooner?

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

I'm on Tresiba so i can't adjust it daily, it takes 2-3 days for any dose changes to kick in for me :( I know i'm taking too much but i can manage it during the day and mostly during the night. What happened last night was a one off but it's really scared me, and i've noticed similar but less...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

Good morning folks! So i've been trying out a very low carb WOE (way of eating) and i have to ask - is it worth the risk of late night hypos? Last night for tea we had a tagine/curry thing, homemade by the fella, with some cauliflower rice. Although we are trying to eat no carb teas so i dont...

Sugar levels fluctuate a lot ?

Sadly, being on the Libre doesn't automatically mean your readings will get better. It's just easier to watch them yoyo :) I drink probably more than i should too - what do you tend to drink? Alcohol in itself is little more than fermented sugar. It makes the blood sugars spike, then drop. A...
