    Smelly urine

I’d maybe also think about what I’m drinking and what I might be drinking too much of or not enough of.

    Dental treatment refused

Sounds to me like a two-way misunderstanding. If dentists ask me about the diabetes they generally want to know if I’m in good control. They may or may not be interested in my A1c specifically. They never ask what my blood sugar is then and there. Here, you showed her your current blood sugar...

What are the causes of gum swelling in diabetes?

You might want to try a consult with a periodontist. They do gums full-time. If you like your dentist, you can probably get a good recommendation there.

Im just so done with everything

The wide swings in blood sugars and sudden changes in insulin requirements can happen to any Type 1 under the right circumstances. But I’ve usually heard this scenario associated with “brittle” diabetes which is more difficult to control than the ordinary Type 1. I don’t know what category...

    Does T1 slow down aging?

You could always start with a cat and go from there.

What is the no 1 thing that frustrates you about living with type 1 diabetes?

The “I hate everything” thing sounds pretty normal after three or four years. I’m not sure I ever felt that strongly but then again everybody’s different. Over the years, I have managed a sort of rapprochement with this disease. I look at my relationship with the diabetes like the Cold War. The...

    Does T1 slow down aging?

In line with what EllieM has said, the process of understanding the disease better and developing a cure may very well also lead to preventing it in the first place. So yes, in that case there might be no need to even begin insulin therapy. All this research, particularly with stem cells...

    Does T1 slow down aging?

Two things. The first is clear. The new beta cells would look to your immune system like your own original beta cells and so it wouldn’t automatically attack them as foreign tissue, as with current beta cell transplants which require immunosuppressant drugs.. The second thing is going to be...

Pump cost comparison for private funding

What might prompt a GP to deny approval for a self-funded pump, assuming the patient is responsible and properly instructed on how to operate it? Once you subtract the cost issue, isn’t it simply a question of preference by the patient rather than meeting criteria for needing a pump?

What made you suspect that using these products could affect your blood sugar?

    Back in Hospital

I think it’s fine to discuss diet but keeping the focus on successfully treating the pancreatitis and all associated problems, however it’s done, would be my overriding concern. It’s a very serious illness and two hospital visits in eight weeks is not what you want. I hope the staff there have a...

    Does T1 slow down aging?

No, the evidence is that as things stand with Type1, it will. But a successful cure using stem cells would sidestep this problem, preventing an autoimmune response that kills the new beta cells.

Prediabetes Listerine mouthwash can raise BG ?

Very good. No question that cutting down on carbs can help.

    Does T1 slow down aging?

Nobody knows for sure what the autoimmune response would be to a fresh set of customized beta cells but the thinking is that the killing of beta cells requires a trigger, like a virus, and they may be able to deal with that.

    Does T1 slow down aging?

Not if they can figure out the exact process to make best use of them. If a stem cell is given the individual patient’s genetic information, that cell should be able to function as a beta cell and produce insulin in a natural way. There would be no rejection problem because the immune system...

50 Years as Type 1 Diabetic

Good job not dying from that dessert. At least you understand well enough not to go too far off the deep end on the “eat anything you want” advice. Newer Type 1s might very well take this literally. It may be a great way to sell CGMs and pumps but I don’t think they are ideal words to live by.

50 Years as Type 1 Diabetic

Fantastic. Very impressive. I agree about recognizing the people who help make living with Type 1 possible. On my 50th, I had a trophy made for my long-time endocrinologist who deserves a whole lot of credit. I haven’t gotten a medal or anything like that (I would feel a bit strange having to...

    Does T1 slow down aging?

Yes, the progress is a glass half-empty or half-full kind of thing. But you raise an important question which is why aren’t they making faster progress on a cure? Keep in mind that stem cells, the big new hope, is also the key to curing some other autoimmune diseases. So there is a fair amount...

Prediabetes Listerine mouthwash can raise BG ?

And nothing you have posted shows that it is a fact and that any of us need to be concerned about it. I don’t see the value in debating the subject in any case.
