    pump-tastic! the go ahaed.

so, after months of banging on to our care unit at hospital and getting nowhere, we asked our GP to refer my 9 yr old son elsewhere. the referal took a while. the first 2 letters went unanswered, but we finally got through to the right person. last week we had our first meeting with a...

    chocolate/ice cream/deserts....

just to be clear.....my son never eats any carbs/sugar between meals except after the odd hypo or if i want him slightly higher before bedtime. jonesy

    chocolate/ice cream/deserts....

both my children eat healthily and are both very active. they hardly ever have fried food, eat at least two types of veg with every meal and also have to eat fruit before any desert. if you are asking if i think any normal 6 and 9 year old has a pudding/dessert after a meal, then i would say...

    chocolate/ice cream/deserts....

my wife seems to think that it's ok to give my 9 year old type 1 son choc, ice cream, deserts as long as it's with a meal and the right amount of novorapid is injected. i think it's ok now and then, but not all the time. however, i need reasons to convince her. or am i wrong and she is...

    airports/aeroplanes and Type 1's.....

not had to do this with my type 1 son yet, but will be doing it soon. do we have to get a 'fit to fly' certificate from gp? what about insulin, needles, glucagon syringe, lancets etc....will we need some kind of letter/certificate to carry them on board in our hand luggage? what about spares...

    gaviscon/anti-acids

actually, i think reflux is quite a common illness suffered by children that woul;d require an antiacid traetment. jonesy

hey doublebed.... i know they did some liver test, which was ok. i don't know what else they did yet. his mum took him this morning and i'll get the full report. only know HbA1C result, and the fact that he didn't like the blood test! jonesy

    first ever HbA1C.........

not sure the dexcom has helped particularly. we only use it here and there. it's certainly a tool, no doubt about that. it's interesting to read, but looks like we're doing ok anyway. jonesy

    continuous blood glucose monitors?

i got a Dexcom Seven Plus for my son last week, and i have to say, it's looking good so far. the sensors last 7 days, but independant tests say definitely 10 days and some say 14 days. jonesy

    quick release/slow release carbs....

thanks leggot.... i actually still gave him his full amount of levimir as i figured i'd cancelled the novorapid out with the 160g carb intake. everything went to plan anyway. jonesy

    quick release/slow release carbs....

hey doublebed....... i'm not going to do it, as i guess that would send my boy's BG shooting up before the novorapid got to work and brought it down again. i was just curious if quick release carbs had a 'shelf life'. i always assumed that a carb is a carb and is there till countered with the...

    quick release/slow release carbs....

hanadr..... that's exactly what i did, but if a carb is a carb, then surely it would be ok to just get 160g into him in any way. would it not be the case that the quick release carbs would just be there till they were all used up and couterbalanced the dose of novorapid. or do they somehow...
