    Refused test strips!?*&

It frustrates me that being diet controlled I don’t get the test strips prescribed, but they’d happily prescribe a bunch of pills if I didn’t control it through my diet. It’s a stupid system. However, I just remind myself that I am LUCKY I can control it through diet and don’t have to take the...

How quickly do you let the liver shed glucose?

Personally, if it was ME, I’d stop the meds & be strict about my diet. I’d eat when hungry, but only when hungry. I wouldn’t force a meal, but neither would I limit myself to any set fasting hours. When I did eat, I’d eat a proper meal, not a snack, so that I really shouldn’t be hungry again...

Type 2 Hypothetical : If you could only afford to test your BG once a day...

If it was ‘allowed’ I’d save them until I could get a meaningful reading with them. If that’s not ‘allowed’ and it’s a ‘use it or lose it’ situation I’d test late evening and if it was high, go for a walk before going to bed.

Have let myself down - levels are higher than at diagnosis

Don’t be too hard on yourself, many of us have been there (and some of us more than once!!). You did it through diet before, you can do it again. I can maintain mine (without medication) in the normal range IF I follow a low carb diet. Your meter is your mate. The difficult thing to get...

My low carb/IF Diet - BG and progress

Deb. I've loved reading your thread You're a lot like me - up & down (emotionally/diet/sleep) all the time, except you're doing really well and I'm not! The Education Sector is a nightmare, I'm glad I'm not in it - I salute anyone being able to stick it right now. I don't know how you put up...

    Quick thank you

Hi Colin You have scored yourself a brilliant Diabetes Nurse - lucky, lucky you!! I understand what you mean about low-carb not seeming to leave many food options, I'm a non egg eating vegetarian low carber... it does sometimes feel a bit difficult, especially eating out, BUT my HbA1c has...

    I'm such an idiot

I have been told not to self test too - it's ridiculous advice. Hope your levels aren't too bad!

    Is my meter dodgy?

If you ring Aviva on their help line they are great. They will look at their chart and tell you if yours is 'within range' - but their (and others) range is 15%, so you are bound to be if you are only one point apart. One day I had readings of 7/5.8/8.5/6.2 one after the other!! When they...

    "Newcastle" Diet

That's brilliant - well done you! I'm low carbing and getting pretty good results, but I'm very tempted to do the Newcastle diet and see if it helps get my levels even lower, so that they stop pushing metformin on me! I'm getting 6.2 most of the time, some 5/8/5.9's and the odd 6.8/7 two hours...
