Does anyone else feel isolated at times?

I think there's no solution...they won't REALLY understand what it's like unless they live with it. Just let them know when you need some extra support and what they can do for you. I can't really tell you what that is since it's different for everyone - maybe you want them to read up about T1D...

    After effects of a hypo

Wow that sounds horrifying. How low did you actually get? I think that the after effects get much worse depending on how low you are and how long you stay there. The only time I've had significant after effects was when I dropped very quickly to the lowest number I've ever had, and needed a lot...

Type 2 Practice nurse said not to test

Keep testing if you want to. Since you are making medication changes this is a particularly important time to test. Like you said, you purchased the strips so you can do what you like with them! My endo suggests that I don't test so often, but for a good reason - I have good control but I get a...

    Type 2 Should I be happy Hba1c

Be happy, it's on its way down! You can still aim for a better result at or below your target while acknowledging the progress that you made.

    Just felt about 2ft tall

I hate when foods don't give carb counts! Worse is when they don't give accurate ones - my mum bought some bread which had something like 15g total carbs and 18g sugar. Doesn't even make sense! If they're printing stuff like that, I feel like I can't trust them at all and didn't even bother...

    Carb Counting, a positive story.

Totally worth it! Blood sugars never do exactly what you want them to and even with the most accurate carb counting, you can get unpredictable numbers, but it certainly helps if you do put in the effort to count them anyway. Keep it up!

Dark circles under the eyes! Really?

I have them, but I think it started before diabetes, so probably not related.

    What’s for dinner?

Steak and vegetables! And ice cream for desert :) . Now I'm sitting here eating lollies, I want to get ready for bed but my blood sugar won't go up :/

    Good news delivered unenthusiastically

Good result! :) I've had my eyes checked a few times now, no strange letters like that but once I was a bit high due to basal issues and so I told the doc in case it affected anything. He seemed horrified at a 10.4 ("that's really high" - yeah thanks I realised that). He's really nice though and...

How many carbs do you eat/prefer?

On average 106g/day according to my pump

    Tell Us About Great Doctors/Nurses

Great idea! I have had lots of positive experiences with doctors and nurses during my time as a type 1. 1) When I was first diagnosed I went to the local diabetes centre. I'd heard mixed reviews of the educators there but every single one I saw as a new type 1 was compassionate and helpful. I...

The Fallacy of Average: How Using HbA1c Alone to Assess Glycemic Control Can Be Misleading

I wish there could be a test for red blood cell lifespan, I am quite curious now. However, if mine died faster than everyone else's, wouldn't my recent troubles cause a much higher HbA1c than my previous one (which was taken during uni break when I was not stressed, and was able to manage my...

    Goodbye

I hadn't read the threads when I posted, AM mentioned that he was being treated badly, causing his decision to quit, so I was simply trying to explain why people might make hurtful posts. My goal was to be supportive of him rather than personally attack anybody.

The Fallacy of Average: How Using HbA1c Alone to Assess Glycemic Control Can Be Misleading

I would tend to put this down to libre/meter inaccuracy, but it's also very suspicious! It's especially weird that the two of us seem to have the opposite problem haha, I would at least expect this sort of thing to be consistent. I wonder about this sort of thing because my last HbA1c was the...

Is there a Stigma attached to your diabetes ? What is your experience.

I play at my local chess club, and some other members know I'm diabetic. Another player there is a nurse, and so I was really happy that there would be someone who could help me if I needed. Instead, he told me off for eating sugar when I was low, thought that type 1's use epi-pens to inject...

The Fallacy of Average: How Using HbA1c Alone to Assess Glycemic Control Can Be Misleading

My blood tests have never indicated any problems that would affect HbA1c (at least any of the issues you mentioned) but I feel like my HbA1c is always way better than my fingerpricks/CGM would suggest. Obviously I will still try my best to get good finger pricks/CGM readings and a good HbA1c...

    Laryngitis and type 2 diabetes

Definitely go to a doctor, most people with diabetes really struggle with illness. It seems as though your numbers improved while you were ill, which is helpful, but I think a doctor could certainly help both with the laryngitis and general diabetes management. Keep posting here too, there are...

    Low blood sugar tolerance

That's not normal - you should ideally be feeling hypos somewhere around 3.5-4.5 (allowing for meter inaccuracy). Recently I haven't had any hypos because I've been able to treat in time, but I can generally feel it around this level. I'm sure that my functioning is impaired <4, if only due to...

    FED UP

Don't be sorry, we love a good grumble around here! You're not alone, we're all trying our best and diabetes just doesn't want to cooperate. I can't do basic things like shower and clean my teeth and walk to class because my blood sugar always goes low, no matter how long I've turned off my...

What is the highest HbA1c ever recorded?

Wow!!! That must have felt terrible :( :( How did you even know what it was, I didn't think meters read that high?!
