My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes today

Thanks, @Brunneria - She's definitely going to be a well controlled diabetic :)

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes today

Resurrecting this thread as one of our dogs has just been diagnosed with diabetes. We were pretty sure she had it as she started drinking loads and waking us up about 3:00am to go to the loo. She has to spend a day at the vets tomorrow where they determine her "glucose curve" and insulin dose...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

It depends on the individual - I don't have any issues at that level so it's not too low for me: Some people might have though

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Skipping all the tempting food and walking 20km yesterday rewarded me with a 3.5 this morning

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Forgot to post yesterday: that was 4.4 and today was 4.1

LCHF Diet now been put on Statin

I was offered statins - not because my cholesterol is high (it isn't) but because "it's standard practice for to offer all diabetics a statin". I politely declined and would have done the same if it had been high - I am unconvinced about the benefits of artificially lowering cholesterol on heart...

Having a break from my freestyle libre for a bit so back to finger prick testing - 4.2 this morning

Not having a very good experience with the freestyle libre :(

When I first started using the libre I had 4 failures in a row for various reasons: they were all swapped out without a problem. Since then, I've not had a single problem but still make sure I always have a spare on hand in case of problems as they do take a long time to deliver new ones It...

    Potatoes !!!!

Yeah, it's really strange! I'm the complete opposite and can eat brown rice, brown pasta, wholegrain bread and even breakfast cereals in moderation and barely even register them

    Potatoes !!!!

I can eat quite a lot of carbs now I've got things under control, but potatoes aren't one of the things I can eat: it doesn't seem to matter if they're boiled, mashed, roasted or chipped: they send my blood sugar sky high :( I have roast celeriac instead of potatoes now

    Free'ist ?????

Poly alcohols (aka polyols) are not excluded from the total carb count in the UK (unlike fibre, which is) but may not affect your blood sugar due to the way they work: they are only partially absorbed and that absorption is in the small intestine rather than the stomach. The unfortunate side...

    Libre application?

I just pushed it normally and it all fell apart - I think it was faulty :) I got it swapped out without any problems as the filament didn't get into my arm
  13. phil1966

    Libre application?

There is actually a needle in the applicator too (the filament is inside it and the needle punctures your arm and retracts safely inside the applicator afterwards, leaving the filament behind). You can see it if you look at the applicator before you apply it to your arm. I agree that it's safe...

    Reverse Type 2 - a question

I agree with what others have said - you're only cured or "reversed" if your insulin response is back to normal: low hba1c results, while desirable and commendable, don't indicate being cured if you're getting them by controlling what you eat If someone can eat pizza, chocolate, etc and get a...

Do I need a bedtime snack?

That really depends on what meds you're on and if you're on insulin. My blood sugar is typically low fives or high 4s when I go to bed and I've never had a hypo. I'm on metformin only
