Type 1 AND Type 2 diabetes?

So I was just wondering... given the way types 1 & 2 work: Is it possible to have both? Or have one, then later develop the other as well? Antibodies gave me a definitive t1 diagnosis - but when I was initially diagnosed as t2, it was only because t1 didn't seem to fit my presentation.

    What Meter to go for?

I use a freestyle optimum neo (type1 so the ketone testing is useful occasionally). Also it saves my history and I can download it via USB. Re: lancets, I use one that I got out of an accu-chek monitor with the 6x lancet cylinders because it's nicer. We get free meters here, and I was...

Type 1 Blood glucose levels too low?

Seems like it's within normal. I start to get hypo symptoms at 4.5, but that could just be because I'm new to diabetes and have had generally higher BGL - 6-12. Best to check with the professionals

Late onset type 1.. the unabridged version.

I'd be interested to see too! I have sent my DNA off to one of those genealogy websites, but I've not heard good things about the accuracy of their tests. And unfortunately the grandfather is no longer around to test. (I have a relative into family history stuff who asked me to provide my dna)...

    Helping my Dad with diabetes

I think the key is to find a handful of things he likes and can eat as much of as he wants. That's how I manage. Have been on low carb diet since long before I had diabetes. Granted, everyone is different, but snacks were most important to me. If I didn't snack I'd get "the hunger" at meal time...

    So Thirsty

Is all that water coming out the other end? Is your mouth dry/lips dry? Are you getting swelling anywhere? I would advise seeing a doctor, there are other things that can also cause this too. It could be nothing, could be a serious sign of something.

Small amounts of alcohol & BGL

Do small amounts of alcohol effect your BGL? I'm new to diabetes, so forgive me... but I had 2.5 drinks (standard shots of 0 extra carb standard strength unflavoured vodka) to test if it had any impact. It didn't. My BGL had been stable in the previous hour, at the time of drinking, and half...

Late onset type 1.. the unabridged version.

So I wrote about this in my intro a bit, but I thought I'd share the full story. First background: My grandfather (mum's dad) had type 1 insulin dependence. His triggered after being released from a POW camp and coming to Australia.. a land of plenty, in relation to what he was used to for the...

    30yo newly diagnosed type1. Hi!

Hey guys, thanks. Yes, experience is king. I've learnt so much since leaving hospital.. and only had 1 unexpected low (stayed above 2, believe it was due to muscles being sore fron rebuilding overnight - which happens easily after 5 weeks mostly bedridden) My biggest issue is actually a family...

Am I taking too much insulin??????

Hi, I just got out of hospital and newly diagnosed too. I was taking similar amount of insulin. Have you returned to normal activity yet since hospital? And what is normal activity for you? I've found since I went back to work (light physical activity for probably 4-5hrs day) and started...

Student nurse wishing to understand more about diabetes

Hi I don't have any advice re: long term as I'm new to it all.. But here's an important one if you end up working in hospital: if a tired/rushed/inexperienced doctor tells you to give fast acting insulin - overnight/not before a meal - Ask the patient if that dose seems like too much to...

    Newly Diagnosed

Hi, I'm newly diagnosed too. Do you mind if I ask how your BGL's are? I'm 2wks in (although only 5 days out of hospital, so adjusting doses to normal life). I am starting to settle down now - 4-15mmol, and only rarely above 12. Four days ago I struggled to get below 10 and would regularly hit 20

    Disillusioned!

I successfully did low carbs diet... and I love my carbs more than the average person. Don't know what a stone weighs, but I lost 20kg Are you eating extra protein (low fat/lean)? Getting more protein helps too I found. Protein for snacks. Also I found lots of snacks rather than big meals...

    30yo newly diagnosed type1. Hi!

Hi everyone. Newly type 1 as of about 2 weeks ago. Triggered at 30 years old. Current best explanation is that it's due to extreme body stress from severe medical issues I had. Had just gotten out of hospital, where I'd been in ICU and close to not making it for the first day or two...
