The docs do seem to like to opt for meds straight away. Over the past three years 5 out of 10 people where I work, (don't get a job in a charity shop, at least not ours ) have been diagnosed as diabetic, and I am the only one that has not been put on meds immediately. Odd bedause initially...

hello everyone please be gentle i'm new to all this

Hi copperend, Nothing wrong with a bit of butter, it's the amount of carbs that cause the problems. I ain't exactly low carb, as some on this site seem to regard low carb, but I have cut out the huge piles of spuds, though I do still eat them, and now only have a couple of slices of Burgen bread...

not quite, on the border though

Hi Paticat, Have you been diagnosed with pre diabetes by any chance? In your post you say you are trying to get your readings down so you don't become diabetic, so I am guessing that you already suspect somethings amiss. I have been diagnosed as pre and am trying my best to make sure it stays...

    Diagnosed today...or well have I..??

This has always puzzled me, why do a fasting test when on waking, (at 5am in my case), when my bs levels are fine 4-6, but by the time I get to the docs at 9-10am my liver is dumping and they have gone well up, usually 6+. If I have had some Bergan toast and a cuppa they are usually well below...

    Weird bg levels

I am pre diabetic and have a virus at the moment. Bs levels this morning 6.2, but have been a bit naughty due to feeling horrid. Had cheese on toast for brekkie, a rich tea as a treat and low cal crackers and few grapes for lunch,( not feeling like eating due to virus). At 1pm fell asleep on...

    Glucose Tolerance Test

Sharlie I too had this test and it was as in previous posts. The good news for me was they downgraded me from diabetic to having pre diabetes. Still sticking with the diet though to try avoid an upgrade.

    The guilty pleasure thread

I go for apple sponge pud made with cinnamon apples and Almond sponge topping. Best served with loads of creme freche. Yummmmmm. I just tell myself the cinnamon and almonds counteract the naughy stuff  . Do use half sugar half splendor too. Only one problem, my other half keeps nicking it...

    chappati's

Hi all, Does anyone know if it is possible to make lower carb or low GI chappati's. Tried making them with gram flour, but they just fall apart, and a curry just isn't the same without them. Tried the rice alternative, but gave up and ate curry with a spoon.
