    LADA honeymoon period- advice needed

I was diagnosed 4 years ago, last two years on insulin. Still in the honeymoon period. Take around 15 units novorapid per day. Last hba1c was 39. Been ketogenic (LCHF) for 4 years. On dx my dr told me to come off griclazide immediately and advised coming off metformin. I understand Gliclazide...

Haven't taken insulin in 3 weeks...

I managed without insulin for well over 2 years after T1 diagnosis, on a very low carb diet. I have now been on insulin for just over a year, first taking 5 units per day now around 10 units per day, around 6 before breakfast and 4 before evening meal. Still on a low carb diet. The lower your...

LADA Learner . Any words of wisdom appreciated.

Hi Billy, I am also LADA / T1.5, or as my Diabetic consultant says, T1 in the honeymoon period. Diagnosed T2 just over 3 years ago, then, like you, requested a gad test 3 months later, which proved positive and thus T1. I was told to stop all medication, including metformin. I didn't go on...

New LADA 1.5 diabetic sharing his experiences

Very Interesting. Many similarities to myself. Have you tried a low carb diet. Have you read / heard about dr Bernstein and his diabetic solution?

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Do you think I should basal? I wouldn't say my consultant refused basal, as I more suggested / enquired about it.... And he said he didn't think I needed it yet as I was doing well with the novo rapid.... And so I accepted his advise.

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

If I had some basal I would try, but my consultant advised against so I don't have any, just novorapid. I will ask again at my next appointment (6 months time).

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

I always now take insulin as soon as I awake, normally 4 units novorapid (but maybe more or less depending on my BG levels) I then eat some flacked almonds and cream and half an hour to an hour later have bacon and egg etc.

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Sounds like you are doing very well Lucy. Still very low doses of insulin. Well done. It's my waking up levels that are my highest too. Last night they were 4.8 before bed and then 7.2 in the morning, probably because I was working outside yesterday in 33deg heat and got a little dehydrated. But...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

It's because I am taking insulin that I can keep my numbers under control. If I didn't take insulin they would, I guess be not far off the double figure mark

    Is the honeymoon over?

I bind the opposit. My reaction and awareness is much better now on low carb. I never crave sugar, dicusting worthless stuff.

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

I only have novorapid, so that's all I take. I did ask my consultant for some long lasting insulin, but he said he felt I didn't need anything else yet as I was doing very well mostly keeping in the 5 to 6.5 range.

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Another update. I started this thread some 2 1/2 years ago, when my consultant said I was not a T2 but a T1 in the honeymoon period and that I would be on insulin within weeks. I proved him wrong for over 2 years, but he was right in the end as I am now taking small doses of insulin daily...

Confusing / Conflicting Information About Carbs In Almonds

Sukrin almond flour (from Tesco / waitrose) is 4g carbs per 100g. Almond flour does seem to vary quite a bit so you need to shop around and read the nutrition labels.

How do you eat 80% fat?

Tesco double cream has just 1.6g of carbs per 100ml

How do you eat 80% fat?

A little more than 3,000kcal per day and my weight is stable at 13 stone and has been for over 2 years now (I am 6'-2") with a bmi of 22. I would like to put on half a stone, but just can't do it with very low carbs, no matter how much fat I eat. Fat alone definitely does not make you fat.

    Is the honeymoon over?

Rubish. Ask your doc where the evidence is. Dr Bernstein (probably the most prominent specialist diabetic doctor in the world) has no more than 12 carbs per meal, and has done so soon after he was given 5 years to live (through diabetic complications) some 40 years ago. He is now 82.

What basis were u diagnosed as Lada rather than type 2?

I was diagnosed T2 nearly 3 years ago, and was hospitalised overnight with high BG levels. After a couple of months, reading and researching I began to believe I was more like a T1 than a T2, so I convinced my GP to do a GAD test, this came back very heavily positive (over 2000), so I was...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Another update. Now 2 1/2 years since diagnosis and nearly 2 years following Dr Bernstein diet, T1 honeymoon period, without insulin. Just back from 3 weeks in Australia where my BG levels rose above 7.0, so started taking morning and evenin insulin doses, typically about 5 units per day. Back...

GAD, C Peptide, Islet - what?

An A1c of 5.1 is very good. Keep your A1c to around 5.1 and your chances of keeping in the honeymoon period for years to come is very good.

GAD, C Peptide, Islet - what?

I have very little knowledge on the c-peptide, I have never had it done, but have asked my consultant for it. He said..... A c-peptide test is an indication of the amount on insulin your body is making at a particular instant in time. If the test was done 3 times during one day a few hours apart...
